Loading potatoes into a semi-trailer

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Loading 51,000 lbs of potatoes in 12 minutes. They leave the farm and are made into potato chips the next day. This trailer load will make about 17,500 lbs of potato chips!

    Couple of them were trying to get away!lol used to load alfalfa cubes this way, also grain. You could tell grain trailers by the sprouts along the floor! Lol

    When Wisconsin Central was in business they used to load potatoes I think it was in CH Robinson trailers they were only half height and would be the top container both coming and going. They did not have a tarp on top and the walls were solid. These shipped out of Stevens Point WI frequently to Frito-Lay oftentimes going to Atlanta

    No. They make it intact all the time. When you think they'd get pulped is the unloading. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZqqD3Jh7aMXYYto.html

    No ours do not but some are hauled with reefers running at 55 degrees because they have no vent doors on the front end of the trailer.

    They put the trailer on a dump and unhook the truck so they raise only the trailer so not to get fuel or oil in the spuds.

    When I did this, I unhooked the trailer and a freight yard vehicle took it and backed it onto the lift. I got to take a nap til they brought the trailer back. Then I had to sweep out the mess.

    A full trailer of potatoes, is that actually only ~70% full by volume?

  • @Grainexpress

    @Grainexpress

    +rif42 More like 50% full. ;) That is a 32" line we were loading up to. I figure on 1500 lbs per inch when calculating how much a driver wants in a 48 x 102 trailer.

    I really want to know how they’ll clean the taters stuck on the floor if you’re hauling this with reefer trailer???

  • @Grainexpress

    @Grainexpress

    4 жыл бұрын

    Muhamed Memedi it’s a flat floor reefer. Pretty much stays clean. If the weather is cool they just open the vents.

    Totally understand that but the reason why I was asking is because I just hauled potatoes on my reefer trailer and I have lots of potatoes stuck on the floor

    @@turboteknika some guys take a scoop shovel and bolt wood strips to it that fit in the grooves and run it down the floor to clean them out. Others just have a stick of some sort and run down each groove in the floor. Whew! ;) Or pay out the nose to get it cleaned at a truck wash.

    @@Grainexpress , when I worked for Dick Simon, they covered the cost of washing out the trailer. They might not have paid the highest rate per mile but all those extra expenses were covered; tolls, lumpers, truck wash. It was great!

    They do this cause some places that make potato chip have dumps that dump the trailer, so unless you like wood in your chips they need to do this. Some places have a convary belt that go in and scoop them up. Nothing about more payload just where they haul into. You can get the same amount on pellet to
