Does the fall protection actually keep you suspended in the air if you slip off the car or does it slowly lower you to the ground so you don't get hurt? Do you have to worry about dust explosions while working around cars like that? About how long does it take to load a rail car and how does the loader know when to stop filling the car? Do they just look and see when it is full or does each car get a specific measured weight of corn loaded? How do you advance the string of cars? Do you have a cable pull that moves the string forward as you fill them or do you use a small trackmobile?

Nice video. Just a tip for stowing your SRL: you should use a short rope tag line on the snap hook so the cable fully retracts into the SRL body when not in use. It'll prevent corn dust from accumulating on the extended cable and getting inside the body and potentially fowling up the inner workings.

Thanks for watching! You are correct, we stow them with a rope so they are fully retracted when we are done using.

How is the Power controlled to advance the cars? It's not like coal where it's set at something like 2 mph. It's more like stop/start here.

I watched this and thought back to the earlier days of railroads before air brakes, when a brakeman had to walk those walks on freight car tops, on a moving train, in freezing weather, to set the brakes manually using a brake wheel club.
