It does not even make sense at this point. He has beaten Kurama plenty and beat Superdog. So you would think he knows what to do but he keeps ending up in this situation. It is always a 3-0 when he loses too. What is that about

Watching this as a marth player, that Mario just had a menacing untouchable aura about it- like any move from Leo was a bad one and that he was on the defensive the entire time

@@BlueKnight788 yeah Kurama was abusing shield over and over and Leo was barely using neutral b or grab to take advantage of that. Leo only zeroed in on Kurama's overuse of spot dodges towards the end and was making greedy decisions and/or attacking Mario's shield with aerials which as Marth or Lucina is generally a poor option

I think this set perfectly encapsulates where we are in Smash Ultimate’s meta right now and how important it is to have a strong punish game. Leo is still an incredible player fundamentally, but doesn’t have the optimized punish games needed to really make characters like Joker and Marth really shine under his fundamentals. On the other hand, Kurama’s punish game with Mario is nothing short of absolutely lethal and his fundamentals are still excellent, only bolstered by PS2 being an amazing stage for Mario.

Yeah though will say Leo lately has been dropping the ball when it comes to neutral. Even in this set, Kurama would pretty much always either Short hop or Dash shield at Leo, anytime he did a dash dance and Leo pretty much never committed to an option that counters those two options. I just don't think his heart is in it anymore and the huge decline starting at Ludwig's invitational shows it. Man proved he's the best, and probably is just gonna coast going forward (fingers crossed for genesis 10)

I can't find the video of MkLeo vs. Shadic, was it recorded?

I have faith every single tournament that Leo will play as insane as he used to, but then he gets placements like 13th and 17th and it makes it really difficult to have any faith that he will even make it to top 8

He won't. Leo is done for and he doesn't take the game as serious as he did before. He doesn't spam the joker or Byleth. Instead he goes a discount version of Aegis, a troll marth who we overrate. How can he win, he cant. He should drop the Marth and train corrin who has had excellent results lately.

Marth's tipper up-air not killing a ~100% Mario at double jump height, when Mario gets 2x down-air kills at the same height on a ~100% Marth is kinda criminal.

What’s annoying is looking at the sets leo beat kurama he always counterpicks stages the only time he beat kurama going all ps2 was when he went aegis against him at MainStage

Leo was so predictable with his aerials and not enough dancing blade was used to beat out those parries. His DI/SDI also needs a lot of work. He still has a lot to work on but I believe in him.

Yeah plus mixup Dairs are often Marth's best landing option esp for anti-parry timing, pancake landing, and high reward. He did none of that. But still Kurama wasn't going to let him even do that for long before adapting

KURAMA MAKING THIS MATCHUP LOOK SO EASY I guess it's easy if you know how to space better than the marth and Parry but, Mario's just got his short stubby Italian limbs while Marth got his big ass sword, how do you ever approach this man? Seems Kurama just opted for the run up shield and hope that Marth throws out a random button for parry punish into 0 to death combo.

Its literally even... and Marth does not have a "big sword" Almost no FE Char has, its disjoints "being the problem" and not range. Half the Cast can outrange Swordies Most of Marios Move don't have a problem to atleast trade with Marth Marth has to work harder to actually keep Mario off and get actual combos while miss spacing once gets you to 70%

If you're telling me Marth Foward tilt vs any of mario's moves other than his projectiles is a good trade then idk man. If the mario knows/is playing the matchup better than a Marth and he gets in, he definitely can wreak havoc just as Kurama did. But Marth definitely has the tools to keep him out, but it's just not as simple as just autopiloting buttons on shield cuz if that Mario is proficient at Parry punishes then you'll see something similar to what happens in this vid. Marth already is one of those characters that matchups are volatile anyways because you need to already be a god at spacing and punishes in order to utilize his tippers. If not, you're literally just playing worse Lucina.

Leo counterpicked a low ceiling stage. Game 1 maybe acceptable. Not game 2 if you lost there in game 1 specifically to the ceiling. Lost to the ceiling again game 2, all three stocks, because what else
