to me this song feels like its about a hopeless romantic. with so much love to give and nobody to give it to. creating scenarios that they feel will never happen.

@@lexviolet just bc she didn't attach a whole lot of meaning doesn't mean you can't, there's something to be said about why people who write songs pick the words they do, that I don't think can be explained away easily; as a poet who regularly chooses words just bc they 'sound cool,' I feel like there is always some deeper driving me, even if I don't fully understand it; sometimes, I'll finish a poem and read through it and realize that that word I chose frivolously, actually adds to meaning I hadn't previously seen

For me, its like when you love the idea of someone more than them as themselves and when we realized and look back it comes with the *"but it's not real, and you don't exist"* lyric saying that all of the memories was not real and it was all only in our heads

I interpreted it as a song for people who have had a love interest for a long time. They may or may not be friends with this person, and they've been wanting to tell them their feelings but didnt have the courage or the moment wasn't right... and then tragedy strikes... and that person is no longer here. You can't really turn to anyone to express your hurt because 1. No-one knows you had a crush because you never told anyone. 2. The love; the relationship you had didnt exist, so you feel ridiculous explaining what wasn't. You're kind of just left to stand outside in the rain alone.

I came across this song just before my dad died, didn't pay much attention to it, but i remember coming across the song again not long after he died and i found the song very comforting and sad. I also just really resonated with the lyrics especially the part 'but it's not real and you don't exist'. I would often have dreams about my dad still being alive and then waking up and coming to the painful realisation that it was just a dream and he really is dead. It's weird cos the song has nothing to do with death but i guess in death and relationships you have to learn to let go and move on. Now I'll forever associate this song with my Dad's Death.

The most beautiful singing voice I have ever heard, but it's not just the voice...it's her.

This song has been my favorite since the album’s release and I felt it never got enough love at the beginning, I’m so glad it finally got the attention and rave it truly deserves, and also for Lizzy!!!

I love this song so much. I so wish it had another bridge at the end that built even more and then another chorus or something. I feel like it just ends when it got great 😭

I relate to this, because I fell in love with a fictional character, and of corse the line “but it’s not real, and you don’t exist” that really hits me. I just wish he was there💔
