Huskys are great dogs but for the love of God, if you're not the type of person to actually walk your dog and play with them a lot, it's not the dog for you. Get a great Pyrenees if you want a snow dog but are lazy. They are good with kids, chill, but still sassy.

Gotta chihuahua that my family found in a dumpster. He has massive abandonment issues but he's also a huge dick to other animals so I can't get another animal to keep him company while I'm at work. I've had to explain to all my neighbors the situation because he sounds like a little girl crying when he's stressed and I DO NOT want to explain that to the police.

Many times dogs will be so anxious and scared in shelter situations that they'll just "shut down" and won't show their personalities and anxieties until they've been in a home situation for a couple weeks: a calm, steady-seeming dog in a shelter may end up being a basketcase at home. Some shelter staff may be unscrupulous, but many times staff just don't know how the dogs will behave.

Human children often go through the same process if they are rehomed because their guardians passed away etc -- they're subdued, often grieving, scared, uncertain, etc. and it's only as they gain more confidence in their new environment that they'll feel safe enough to act out or be vocal about their needs.

@@MM-jf1me no I’m not saying the shelters are not nicely kept or mean to animals. I’m saying that my only experiences at a shelter have been the types where the animals seem really social and bonded to the people around them. That might have been by their design, now that we are having this conversation, and really I’m thinking about it. That’s why my initial thought was “why would they send an anxious dog to an anxious man?? Don’t they know it’s anxious?” And I have nothing against anxious dogs either… my dog requires a bit of extra attention, himself. He is scared of men 😕

It's very tempting to form parasocial bonds, but you have to remain critical of people you don't actually know. That said, there are levels of transgressions. I forget the terminology but I think people are quick to feel "betrayed" and jump to cancellation because they forget that stranger is another person and not simply a reflection of their opinions or what they project onto their idol.

People also hold celebrity women to a far harsher standard while repeatedly forgiving celebrity men. Rowling said awful things about trans people and gives money to Scottish conservative party, which should be examined. Yet American audiences have forgiven Dolce and Gabbana for many more repulsive offenses: body shaming women, shaming ivf, that racist 1900s style Chinese ad, etc. Everyone should figure out what the line is for them, which person's work can they enjoy despite the person being an imperfect human. Stuff like this makes me so anxious for dogs. They have no choice in the matter at all. They just get bought randomly for whatever purpose, and if they fail to live up to the expectations of their owner, they get discarded. Only now instead of being a puppy or coming from a breeder, they're coming from a shelter and a lot of people treat them like trash or like something is wrong with them. Absolutely breaks my heart. I live in a rural area and strays that have been abandoned come up to my house all the time because they are starving and also seeking human contact that they were raised with. Breaks my fucking heart every time and I end up taking them all in because no one else wants them. Even had a chipped dog once and after calling the owner and telling them I found their dog, they hung up on me. I called back again and he said he didn't want it and not to call back again. They do this shit with dogs and cats all the time... People, usually from the city, just drive out here "in the middle of nowhere" where they think no one is watching or seeing what they're doing, and just pull off the side of the road and put their animal out and drive off and leave them. And even if they take them to a shelter, the shelters get so backed up and filled to capacity that they either kill the less desirable dogs to make room or, if it is a no-kill shelter, then it has to live the rest of its life in a cage because they don't get adopted. Absolutely breaks my heart. I hope they learn to live with and love that screaming dog or find a good home for it. Being abandoned is the worst thing.

@@CarnivorousCowMan I know it, and my heart goes out to everybody, but people at least have the capacity to right themselves and be independent and make their own decisions. A dog is entirely at the mercy of their owner. Whether they are loved, neglected, abandoned, or even killed, the owner can do whatever they want with them and the dog has no say in the matter. I wish humans were more compassionate and generous toward one another and all living things in general instead of looking at a creature and only thinking of the ways its existence benefits them.
