AAAYYE!! I’m Cape Verdean AND Filipino! Just found you guys. Excited to watch your Filipino food video... hoping Justin’s reference of “egg rolls” being cooked is not lumpia. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Really hoping someone’s actually cooking egg rolls because, since I was a kid, it always hurt my heart to hear someone call lumpia egg rolls. 🤣🤣 Thanks soooo much for sharing!! 🤣❤️💕🤗

Thanks for watching!! 🥰 you’re describing it exactly how my mom makes it except she uses kale. I have some family members who make it with lima beans and some with rock beans, we call it feijoada in my family because at the end of the day it’s beans lol I’m glad you liked our video. We are doing another Cape Verdean food video in season 3 where my Mom is going to teach us how to make her cachupa and Justin will actually get to taste some true Cape Verdean staples unlike what I had to give him here because of the unfortunate timing of my cousin’s passing. Didn’t want to bog the family down with cooking at that time and just purchased those borderline items instead haha. Can’t wait for him to try it and hope you tune in!! 😊

Hey! Glad you checked out our video! I can totally see why you are picking up on the Portuguese word a lot. I wasn’t very lucky with this food challenge because I had a cousin who passed away around this time and my cachupa and pastel didn’t make it to the food challenge. So unfortunately, a lot of the food I had was not staples to Cabo Verde but actually more Portuguese staples that are consumed by Cape Verdeans frequently. I didn’t want anyone to assume I was passing off Portuguese food as Cape Verdean. However, we are doing a new video next year where I get to bring some of my favorite Cape Verdean foods and do a redo, so Justin gets to really try food from my heritage. I hope you tune in to the next video when we do it 😊

The reason Cape Verdeans have an identity crisis because they don't know their true history. Cape Verdeans are Indigenous Americans that were brought to those islands from the American continent. Many Cape Verdeans have Narragansett and other ancestry from the Northeastern United States along with other parts of the American continent from the Caribbean and other areas of South America. The history that was taught to us here in America and Cape Verde was a lie. I suggest all brown-skinned Cape Verdeans watch this documentary: @qFlQ POWERFUL STUFF!

El Hajj Malik El that’s interesting because lots of Cape Verdeans have done their dna 🧬 and there are very little to no evidence of any dna from the indegenous of the Americas. Although we were involved in the whaling industries from the 1700’s and on until that industry died out. Most of CV’s have dna mainly from West Africa and Europe. Some do have East Indians and other Asian areas. Due to the whailing industry, some do have American indigenous dna but it’s not a lot of them. We have evidence of our historical heritage. Go to CV and visit Cidade Velha. Also visit the historical churches that held information from slavery days. Our Batuque and Tabanka holds a lot of our history too. Remember that CV people were the first African descendants to migrate to the Americas on our own free will and many settled in the Northern Eastern part of the USA. Many CV did have relations and marriages with natives in said regions. Although I’m still learning more about my heritage.

  • @amunetbahiti9084

The reason many CV struggle with their identity is because of the effects of colonialism. The brain washing was tremendous blow to our identity just like in the America’s. Unfortunately it’s going to take some time to recover from such atrocities but it can be done with some patience and determination. Imagine a nation that just became independent less than 50 years ago. We’ve come a long way though. The only we ask is for others to stop labeling us and persecuting us because we didn’t ask to be this way. However, the important thing is that is the new generation are more educated and better equipped to destroy all that was afflicted upon us mentally. We are proud of who we are and simply ask that others accept us for who we are without projecting their hate on us. That’s all.

@@amunetbahiti9084, I understand this information may be new and confusing, but I highly suggest you check that documentary. It's the same for us so-called "Black Americans". We were taught we were brought here on slave ships from Africa in white schools. Through my deep digging, come to find out we are the true native Americans and are Indigenous to this land. The DNA testing companies are also fraudulent. They can't determine someone's ethnicity based off of swabbing. Here's a documentary on that as well: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y2ds08mOiafSZrQ.html Amunet, please, I encourage you to watch these videos. You all are our people taken from these lands and were taken over there. You all are of American aborigine ancestry. You're our brothers & sisters. Please, just watch because I'd like to further connect with you all. It's going to be a shock, but much of what we were taught were lies.
