LIZ PHAIR on Sessions At West 54th (January,1999) [FULL APPEARANCE]
Ойын-сауық
Recently,I saw the credits for Jennifer Love Hewitt's show "The Client List". And I noticed the name LIZ PHAIR suddenly appearing in the music credits (2nd season.)
Back in the day (the Nineties) LIZ PHAIR did several alternative-music albums for Matador Records. As a then-music reviewer for the now-defunct magazines DISCOVERIES and ROCK CITY NEWS,I was already aware of this artist. Ms.Phair often used controversial, sexual lyrics in her songs. But she was/is a solid singer-songwriter-guitarist. Ms. Phair, with her plain-sounding voice, nonetheless managed to be the Everywoman of the alternative-rock world.
Recently,I did a spring cleaning of my collection...and found this remarkable clip. 3X more than you'll find elsewhere on KZread. In early 1999 I was recording what I could off of analog, network TV...and this included some female rockers.
FAIR USE NOTICE: This LIVE performance cannot be currently purchased as either a digital disc or a download,to my knowledge. This video is intended for educational,non-profit use only.

I bought GUYVILLE when it came out, but it was this broadcast that turned me into a fan. I had it on VHS, but alas I no longer have a player. Thank goodness for KZread.
One of the great female rhythm guitarists. She is known for her song writing, but underrated as an instrumentalist.
Thank you! I went to this show!
This is the kind of performance you wish would never end...Love you Liz...stay safe everyone MAR 21 FL USA
Bless you for sharing this!
thanks for the upload, I was 20 when this came out, still can't get over how great the 90s music was!!

Whitechocolatespaceegg is one of my favorite records ever. This was a wonderful treat. The muse was with Liz on this one.

What the fuck is up with comments on youtube... Anyway. Agree 100%. Wish Sessions was still on- great set (despite David Byrne's somewhat awkward intro).
If it were Thanksgiving, I would pledge thanks for this video. Thank you !
Very cool - that's awesome too that Ric Menck (Matthew Sweet's band) is on drums
Thanks for posting this. I saw her play in May of 1999 at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel. Great show. BTW, what the hell is David Byrne wearing in that interview? Did he just get back from duck hunting?

Thumbs down for the courtesy tag on the screen.

ikr. lowest common denominator choice. maybe it shld be bigger.
This would be so much better if the 'Courtesy' statement was a little smaller.

Really Good!
Gratitude here.
I came across this performance on KCET late one night. When Liz began singing I actually said out loud to the TV, "I don't know who you are, but you have my. UNDIVIDED. ATTENTION."

My Fav. L.P. CD= Whitechocolatespaceegg
fantastic (you could make the 'courtesy...etc' on the bottom a little more discrete?
Hey mate, just wondering if you have other sessions at west 54th recordings?
6.1 version fucking rules
As if THE David Byrne interviewed Liz Phair in this video. Two legends. 9:26

Can you explain what your statement means? Sounds like some non sense
Why is David Byrne all decked out like he should be in a tree stand waiting to shoot a deer?

Psycho Killer was never specific about exactly what he was killing. 🤷🏻♂️
David should've used his camouflage outfit to sneak up behind the keyboard player and turn down the volume during 6'1
Makes sense.....LIZ PHAIR mixed sex with music......so,worked for THE CLIENT LIST. But this clip shows LIZ at her greatest. :)
thanks, everybody, for the nice comments :) for some reason this is (as I said) NOT available on the "sessions" collections.
Is the studio kinda dark?
Sessions was one of the few shows on PBS worth watching. They need to bring it back. Without awkward intros.
The band is spot on and I mean that in not such a good way.

9:26 it's called fiction.
David's intro was so sweet. He should make a duet album with Liz like he did with St. Vincent.
A little disappointed. They didn't show the whole show. I guess they couldn't play fuck and run on pbs.
I love Liz but is it me or she often off key?
Are David & Liz going bow hunting after the show?
off key singing & dissonant playing. sounds like crap

You don't "get" Liz. Sorry. You have to get on board with Exile...
