Beck - Sessions At West 54th Sep 5th 1997 Complete

Музыка

This is the complete broadcast performance.......after 18 months on the road with "Odelay" , session @ W 54th would be the last show of the tour......This has the best version of "Where It's At" that I ever heard......super funky!!!! An incredible performance all around....

Dayum! The vocal range on Beck, wow, just… Wow! Busting genre’s left and right too. Say, did he ever get a nod for any R&B recognition at all? Coz we know he should. He’s a lot more deserving than today’s autotune “artists” I think.

There are pockets in time when music artists and their songs comes into your life that somehow makes a summer or a winter trip or a 2 week camping trip with friends that help seal those moments special and unforgettable. The summer of 96 is to me one of those special times and I remember wherever I went Becks Odelay and The Fugees the Score became my own soundtrack that summer. 2 years prior I witnessed Beck opening for Bob Dylan_ hard to beat that one..

They would've sounded different to some degree, but you can't say there wouldn't have been 'any' PB or Odelay. Were the Dust Brothers writing the lyrics, melodies, playing all the instruments and doing all the singing? Feel dumb now? Good.

but they havent turned zombies then. nowadays the amount of time an average person hold their phones and stare at it in a week is more than they ever get to hold a person's hand and look at them in the eyes for a year. real human touch in lives isnt that important anymore. it has turned creepy it seems instead. what the device 'tells' you what 'humanity likes' is more important. it is not a device that humanity uses positively practically speaking. humanity uses it to distract, sensationalize, spread mal -intents, hatred and disinformation in actual fact under guise of making a user feels that the world is engaged the fingertips conveniently. it's worse than the TV. at least with the TV an audience can choose to turn it off but with a smartphone it turns the user conveniently into a slave in denial. i miss the time when they werent as much to be taken for granted of; i miss when the internet was not ready for normal folks to abuse in the name of popularity and trend. i miss the age when the stupid box that makes ppl stupid was just the TV. i miss the days when cell phones were just meant to make and take calls. i miss the 90s. people back then can't hang on their phones as soon as they wake up until they fall asleep literally. at least not every day. On Arzachel's self-titled LP from 1969, the song is listed as "Queen Street Gang Theme." On another pressing of their LP, it's listed as "Soul Thing (Queen St. Gang)." It's a mellower version of Keith Mansfield's "Funky Fanfare" which Beck's band covered. Coincidentally, Danger Mouse and MF Doom sampled "Funky Fanfare" for their song "Old School Rules" and years after Beck had recorded this "Sessions at West 54th" performance, he worked with Danger Mouse on the Modern Guilt album (2008). Anyway, if you see an early pressing of Arzachel's self-titled LP, just get it!
