Beck - Sessions At West 54th Sep 5th 1997 Complete
Музыка
This is the complete broadcast performance.......after 18 months on the road with "Odelay" , session @ W 54th would be the last show of the tour......This has the best version of "Where It's At" that I ever heard......super funky!!!! An incredible performance all around....

Saw him live last week, 25 years have passed, still rocking buffet tables and record labels, man is a legend.

Dayum! The vocal range on Beck, wow, just… Wow! Busting genre’s left and right too. Say, did he ever get a nod for any R&B recognition at all? Coz we know he should. He’s a lot more deserving than today’s autotune “artists” I think.
I attended this show! Still to this day over a 1000 concerts later this is in my top 5 favorites!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I've been to hundreds of shows, as well. I saw him on this tour at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence. It was awesome. He lived up to every expectation I had, being a huge of all of his albums up to this point. I would definitely put it in my top 10 concerts ever.

I like that Beck stayed true throughout all the success. Respect
There are pockets in time when music artists and their songs comes into your life that somehow makes a summer or a winter trip or a 2 week camping trip with friends that help seal those moments special and unforgettable. The summer of 96 is to me one of those special times and I remember wherever I went Becks Odelay and The Fugees the Score became my own soundtrack that summer. 2 years prior I witnessed Beck opening for Bob Dylan_ hard to beat that one..
I friggin love his talent! His creativity is beyond! To appreciate him is to understand his artistry cuz there is no one like Beck, they broke the mold. His parents & type of upbringing had to have shaped his freedom to express himself. These days every song on ‘Morning Phase” is what I listen to ✨thanks for sharing!

He's a national treasure.
Time sorts the wheat from the chaff, great music and musicians last a long time. Though the musicians may leave us, or fall on bad times, the music remains long after as a testament to their originality and talent. And happy memories of good times.
Crazy to see this live. Beck looks like a skinny glass of milk, but the Funk is undeniable. He's pulling moves no white boy should even think about attempting and nailing it every time. Respect.

So unassuming sitting at home with his acoustic guitar writing alt folk songs, but put him on stage, plug him in, and WATCH OUT!
I didn't think he'd hit it this hard.
Un genio....UNO DE LOS MEJORES DISCOS DE LOS 90.....y en directo sonaba igual para mi su actuación en el Festimad del 97 fue uffff INOLVIDABLE 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have such warm memories of watching this on TV. Junior year of college, shared an apartment with a bunch of guys and we all thought Beck, the Beastie Boys, James Brown, and Jason Pierce were gods.
This rips just as hard as I remember. Amazing.
That Where It's At breakdown at the end is so dope.
What a band and what a performance!
Thanks for posting this superb Beck performance, it contains my favorite version of Jackass. In 1997 this TV performance was my introduction to Beck. I was knocked out by his stage presence and showmanship. Thoroughly entertaining

What an overexaggeration! Hey butthead, the songs have to be there before the producer even has a reason to be around. Those albums were coming out anyway. They would've sounded different to some degree, but you can't say there wouldn't have been 'any' PB or Odelay. Were the Dust Brothers writing the lyrics, melodies, playing all the instruments and doing all the singing? Feel dumb now? Good.

but they havent turned zombies then. nowadays the amount of time an average person hold their phones and stare at it in a week is more than they ever get to hold a person's hand and look at them in the eyes for a year. real human touch in lives isnt that important anymore. it has turned creepy it seems instead. what the device 'tells' you what 'humanity likes' is more important. it is not a device that humanity uses positively practically speaking. humanity uses it to distract, sensationalize, spread mal -intents, hatred and disinformation in actual fact under guise of making a user feels that the world is engaged the fingertips conveniently. it's worse than the TV. at least with the TV an audience can choose to turn it off but with a smartphone it turns the user conveniently into a slave in denial. i miss the time when they werent as much to be taken for granted of; i miss when the internet was not ready for normal folks to abuse in the name of popularity and trend. i miss the age when the stupid box that makes ppl stupid was just the TV. i miss the days when cell phones were just meant to make and take calls. i miss the 90s. people back then can't hang on their phones as soon as they wake up until they fall asleep literally. at least not every day. I saw Beck play at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle just 5 days before this on 8/31/97. I always remember the date because I found out about Princess Di dying right after the show. I think he was wearing the same suit, but he came out with a big horse head on.
Greatest musician of our generation
A shining exception to Oscar Wilde's dictum, one young man on whom youth was not wasted.
God, I feel old now; this was theme music my junior year of high school. To see how Beck has evolved, all the way from the way back catalogue to Morning Phase, damn straight this dude won fair and square. From leaf blowers onstage in 94 to where he is now, Beck is complete; a TRUE musician's musician.

On Arzachel's self-titled LP from 1969, the song is listed as "Queen Street Gang Theme." On another pressing of their LP, it's listed as "Soul Thing (Queen St. Gang)." It's a mellower version of Keith Mansfield's "Funky Fanfare" which Beck's band covered. Coincidentally, Danger Mouse and MF Doom sampled "Funky Fanfare" for their song "Old School Rules" and years after Beck had recorded this "Sessions at West 54th" performance, he worked with Danger Mouse on the Modern Guilt album (2008). Anyway, if you see an early pressing of Arzachel's self-titled LP, just get it!
