I agree, but these kind of arms cost way more. I have a "realistic" myoelectric arm that cost the state between $4k to $8k (Great healthcare here, the state payed it all themselves). While one of these could cost up to around $20k, which you most likely would have to pay out of your own pocket.

30k the cheapest and for the bebionic arms in this vid, which is pretty silly but companies like open bionic are creating cheaper and more efficient bionic arms that can cost around 600 dollars since they can be 3d printed.

I’ve wearing a microprocessor control s foot for about 4 years and can definitely say that it is much easier to accept a leg made of carbon than a prosthetics wrapped in artificial skin!

I'm not an amputee, but I too also believe that a bionic that looks very clearly robotic/mechanical look way better than a prosthetic that tries to look "real." Helps avoid that creepy Uncanny Valley feel with artificial skin.

apart from all the shit that happens nowadays, I think it's a great time to be alive. Technology evolves faster and faster every decade. There are even more advanced prothetics out there yet though.

Eh no we shouldn't. Do you want people walking around with potential weapons hidden inside their hand? A wine opener inside your hand could be used to stab you then your tone would soon change. Would perfectly healthy people start wanting to get their arms removed because they are now at a disadvantage? Think about the possible problems this could create in society. Thankfully there are smarter people than us working on this who realise it.

That bionic hand is a thing of beauty. It really is. I like the extra detail of putting the appearance of fingernails where they would be on an organic hand. Not all bionic hands have that detail so when i see it done, I appreciate that extra something the designers put in. She could even put press-on nails on her bionic hand if she wanted to match the press-on nails on her organic hand. ✋🤚🏻

Am I the only one here who would want a prosthetic hand that looks like the one Venom snake has in MGSV?

Tbh I don't mind walking around with half robot people around me or robots around i feel it is necessary for it to happen. But I'm bit a scared about the idea that we are going to have human looking robots walking around. I agree with the girl at beginning it's much better if it's upfront and I know you have a robot arm or I know you're a robot.

My concern is if there are tiers of prosthetics, where the best are reserved for the wealthy, or if only the wealthy can afford to transform themselves in this way. It would make them even more overpowered compared to the average populace.

+Zamboro Unless we come to a point where people actively remove limbs to replace them with superior bionics that won't happen. 1) As technology advances prices will go down. This arm is around € 9.000 (according to a site I found, didn't do extensive research), which is not THAT much. Earlier models cost 100k+, yeah with those prices its only for the rich. Now its the price of a nice second hand car. 2) Don't see how it makes them OP compared to the average joe, unless you've got pictures of armies of terminators or Jaegers walking the streets on your mind. The power of the wealthy isn't through force or anything physical like that. So I fail to see the inmense edge it would offer them. Only as a prestige object maybe, like how nowadays they drive Ferrari's and you a Peugot or something. If you think about it, it doesn't do much other than shout "look this was expensive". Sticking to the speed limit, you get there just as fast. 3) Adding to 2, unless people actively replace limbs with cybernetic gadgets most people still have 2 arms and 2 legs. No distinct advantage is to be gained by being able to afford a bionic hand that perfectly resembles a human hand if you've got both hands. +Alika Kobiashvili In the Western world we're pretty much at the minimum amount of exploitation by the rich in history. No more peasants butchered by feudal lords, no megafactory owners working their people to death, no slaves and so on. There's unions, PR, socialist laws etc. There will always be the privileged few but the gap is hugely eroded

Even before the awesome prosthetic arm she had her own way of living and with a good attitude. Very glad for her.

Yes The answer to this is obviously both teaching people to use the stuff you give them so they don't do shit like that accidentally(seriously what world do you live in where this wouldn't happen) as well as a sweet ass arms race(pun not intended) to build us all better bodies that won't crumble in a stiff breeze

I think if we could connect nerves to circuits to control the limbs and have synthetic myofibrils to connect the prosthetic to the recipient's actual limb, we could have adjustable, low cost, long term prosthetics that have reduced weight (as the upper arm takes over some of the prosthetic's functions) and more room for more powerful components without increasing size.

in school we had a lecture from someone who used to work there and he brought this version in with him. He also had a different myelectric one that was set up for demonstration (space for your hand to go) that we got to try out. It was strange to see it move when moving your hand like she did in the video, like kinda eerie lol. Also, the reason these are so uncommon is because of the cost, ~$500,000

There are new prosthetics that can simulate the sense of touch to the user. Technology is AMAZING!

whoah that is the most coolest bionic arm I"ve seen in the youtube, some bionic hands lacks design.

You could make a human hand with spider claws that draw in and out using different muscles. Or rockets, for military purposes. You could also always ad an iPhone or android displays that can be interchangeable between both.

Impressive innovation.

no lie, if we found a way to directly connect muscles to machinery, so I could still have the full speed and power (or hopefully augmented power) of the limb. I would absolutely be willing to give my left forearm if I got a bionic arm that was able to mechanical function the same so I could still play bass. I am good at building things too, so I could make new hand attachments and stuff. that'd be badass.

My brother is now a bilateral BE amputee. Do you have any further information or contacts in the field of bionic hands any charitable organizations or programs your aware of that may be useful. I am opening up a go fund me campaign and a KZread channel. I'm also producing a video on his be half to let people get more in touch with the cause they're supporting. We are only about 6 weeks out of the hospital and my brother is not adjusting well any information you have on the subject of avionics would be gratefully accepted. Lol that hand can do full rotation, very handy (lol no pun intended until I typed it), no need for a fancy ratchet, just a plain Harbor Freight breaker bar would be just as good. But heck, if you can afford a hand you can afford to pay someone else to fix it for you.

A couple of issues which will no doubt be solved eventually: It would be better if it were controlled by the brain. A connection to the motor neurons maybe? Real hands can move a lot quicker than the ones shown. It should be able to react the way a real arm would. Hopefully someday this will be achieved with an advanced embedded operating system.

what's the difference between a swiss army hand and a hand that can pick up tools? if the hand can crush a steel pipe than that's different, but I'd still be okay with it. I'm sure I could find a tool that can do that as well. Tools and machines can be scary but it's all in how we use them

@Aging Reversed Our brains does not control our hands but the muscles and veins in the arms that will do the work for our hands with specific instructions from tge brain. Using impulses from those arms is a trying to place a connection again to those impulses lost from a cut hands. So basically the mind control you were thinking rather has the time lapses and the difficulty and unnatural to master while this one is pretty natural that when its initial installation no necessary adaptation and training is necessary precisely, its just utilizing what the arms once did before the hands were cut😉😎

6:31 definitely. If you can create a bionic arm that works 100% like a natural arm, but in addition got new functions, why would i want to keep my limited biological arm? I mean if senses of touch, heat, pain (up to a certain amount), arm movement and fine control are as good as a human arm, so you don't feel any difference, but then also finally are able to move the wrist 360° for a fast screw driving movement or move your fingers 2 times faster, precise and more powerful, i don't see why we shouldn't replace those limited biological limps.

Well, our arms were made by millions of years of evolution. Not having to charge your arm is a big plus. And your arm is, at least for now, much more flexible and useful for a lot of everyday tasks. Also, no technological malfunctions, and your hand can't get hacked into. Getting rid of your perfectly good arm is a bad decision to make, in my opinion. And I would be surprised if they just started handing out extremely strong bionic arms. Humanity is unpredictable, and people could die if a psychopath got his hands on one. To clarify, I'm not against bionics. If you've lost a limb, then sure, get a bionic one! But don't get rid of a perfectly good arm just to get a shiny new bionic one. Plus, fingerprints! You might want to keep those. And good sense of touch! There's another one. And your reactions are much smoother and more natural.

Why is this thing so slow? It's wicked, but that reaction time, it seems like they wouldve figured out how to make it faster by now.

The latest version now have the ability to provide basic sensations.

I was also born without a right hand. This looks really cool but I don't think I'll pursue getting a prosthetic until I can actually control the thing like a real hand. I've had less advanced ones that you also control with the electrodes like this one and it just feels too limiting, there's basically just on and off, opening or closing, there's no fine control. It feels like having a block of wood strapped to your arm.
