Hey fellow primate owner, Just a little FYI from also a primate Vet here, going on 32 years. I have heard of the grabbing the neck thing and it does work fine if you have the 6 months to train them for that long. I found when mine did that as well with about any primate a good pinch will stop that just about on the third or forth time. Remember when they mothers get on to them for doing something like that she will bite the crap out of them. This pinch is about the same effect, I mean don't pinch them hard enough to bring blood, but what you would think the pain level of a good momma monkey bite would be. No matter what breed I was raseing at the time a couple pinches would most usually do it.It is pretty much the same thing when you parents got the belt, you done it once but after that butt whoping you did't do it again. A belt whipping is the same thing as a momma monkey bite. It shows them you do that again their will be pain.

Time out/disengagement has always worked for me with biting. You bite, you’re done. I say, “No bite, time out,” and separate from them. A transport carrier works well as a time out room, just don’t use their sleeping area for discipline. They usually figure it out eventually without harsh punishment, and at least you’re not being chewed on while they’re in time out.

It is recommended that you have two of them. That way they keep each other entertained and it keeps them from getting into so many things. Maybe you should get one more and see how that works.

NOOOO it doesn't, it means you're a bad pet owner and you let your animal do whatever it wants and other people have to suffer for it.

You have to find out how a mother pygmy marmoset disciplines it's baby and that's is how you discipline this one. Also, you HAVE to make him wear diapers, because it's a health hazzard. Don't keep him spoiled, discipline marmoset style, it will work. Don't give in, and don't let him eat food he is not supposed to have, period. You are the leader, not the other way around. He will eventually calm down but will need much personal socialization and consistency. 2 hours a day is not enough, unless you want a maladjusted little monster. It's never too late to break bad habits. Just be consistent.

That’s great advice. I feel like I learned a few things about life with a Marmoset. So thank you. Everyone should consider these things before rushing out, and spontaneously, buying one. It’s crazy, but I’m kinda glad, that I have time to wait, while saving up... I’ve been trying to learn, as much as possible before buying one. I ordered a few books on Marmosets, and the caring of them. spoke to some great reputable breeders, as well as some very shady, not so reputable breeders. I felt like they were sharks! No one should rush, and pressure you for the money, before even discussing whether the animal, and you, are a good fit, for the animal”s long term interest. Anyway, I Can’t wait to see more lil Jack videos 🐒

So I know this was 2 years ago, but I wonder what it's like being this yoked dude that benches 450 that's pretty much totally submissive to a juvenile common marmoset. IDK, I'd feel kinda lame and maybe a bit emasculated. I'm gonna keep watching to see how this situation plays out, but I really hope Shahzain can show a little dominance and get Jack to quit treating him like his bitch. I mean, breeder or whoever says to hold him to show it's not alright to constantly bite......sooooo fucking hold him for 5 minutes or whatever it takes and train him a little bit. Or just find him a new home. Because 20 years as a marmoset's bitch is no way for a guy to live...

I had a marmoset for a few months. They always bite, especially your neck, it's because in the wild they eat a lot of tree sap by biting a chunk of bark off and letting the sap run. This behavior is instinctive and does not go away. Their hyper activity also does not go away and they can be moody and aggressive. They have super ADHD. oh my,it get tiresome. They get into everything and destroy if they can.

I would rather have a squirrel. Squirrels communicate with their voices, eyes and actions too AND you can potty train them which is one of the most important things. I haven't looked it up but now I'm wondering if these animals exist alongside a type of squirrel and if they ever interact. They look a lot like squirrels with primate faces. There's not even much difference between their hands/paws.
