Living With A Hyundai i20N - Better Than A Fiesta ST?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Hyundai i20N is a small 200hp hot hatch, one of the very few available for sale now. I take it for a drive and pass on my thoughts.
Enjoy,
Sam

I guess that it is, by design, a pretty noisy throwback hot hatch. Don’t underestimate how decent it is on motorways though. My partner drives an i20N at least 300 motorway miles each week and finds it great. It is stable at speed and in blustery weather, does nearly 45 mpg, has pretty good acceleration for overtaking, has bags of kit as standard and cost £25K new including phantom black paint.

To live with, the ride is not an issue unless hitting a pothole. It's very easy to get used to it cos it's such a sincere little hot hatch, it makes sense to have a firm ride, it's such a laugh🔥🔥🔥

Considering the price, the styling of the car is really impressive. I like the aggressive lines and the contrasting stitching on the interior. Hyundai/Genesis are coming out with some very impressive vehicles lately. The Kona electric is supposed to get 4.8miles per Kwh!, and the genesis x convertible concept is one of the nicest designs I have seen in a while.

You are right, it’s a really great design inside and out. I’ll be amazed if the Kona get’s 4.8mi/kWh but that’s super impressive if it does! I had an Ioniq 5 for a week after this and really liked it. Bodes very well for Hyundai’s future

For daily car (i use it for a year like daily car) its better als Fiesta ST (especially before facelifting). Its has superb sound (my pops a bit more, but you must know how make it). For me isnt to firm to drive - for example please drive i30N in track mode (N-mode) - the hardest suspension - this in really hard. The only things that I miss in i20N is active suspension, i30N and konaN have it, but i20N is excellent as it is- not to fast, not to firm but super fun generator! It gives max fun for so small money (for new car)!

❤I don’t agree with the comments on the suspension. The set up is rather good , it take s the initial jar out of drain covers and pot holes then compresses. It’s very much like a swift sport mk2 . If yiu want to try hard go test drive an FN2 type r, the i20N is nothing like that

I find this is a car that is quite underwhelming until it’s driven hard, then it’s fantastic. Daily commuting can be frustrating due to the hard suspension but it really makes sense when pushing on.

I replaced my mk8 fiesta st for a new i20n and to be honest it would be hard to pick between both handle the same, both as quick as each other, the the dash miles better in the i20n, but the tyres on my fiesta st lasted me 10k-12k miles , where my i20n needs tyres changed at 4.5k miles, so if you do 12000 miles a year then one set of tyres on a fiesta st compared to prob 3 sets on front and one set on back on i20, and while owning the i20n that’s just been driving to work and back haven’t even pushed the car like I did my st

Thanks for the review, it confirms that I've made the right choice in ordering the new Fiesta ST. One of the factors that made it a no-brainer here in NZ is that the Hyundai i20N is a full 20% more expensive than the Ford. If it were the same price ? I'd probably still have gone with the Ford, mainly for that great little 3cyl motor. And it's styling. The Hyundai is a little over the top for me. Each to their own, as always. Just subscribed.

Well at least with the fiesta st you’ll save each yr on tyres, my mk8 fiesta st needed just front tyres at roughly 12000 miles, yet i20n I replaced fiesta with needs tyres on front after 4500 miles which is a joke, looking online loads are saying this with the Pirelli’s pzero car has fitted, plus to me the fiesta st seemed quicker, i20n has nicer dash, sounds better and looks a bit better, but if someone offered me the choice now between the st and i20n id take the st

Some countries, the I20 N, is way expensive. Make a testdrive with both cars and choose what you like best. I like the Ford more because it looks more like an adult car. The I20 N looked more like a boys car. But thats my opinion. You can't go wrong on both cars.
