Mathematically low or no interest rates make sense to pay off later if you’re making more money with your investments but lets be honest, the average person doesn’t even invest let alone good investment, most people aren’t financially disciplined and again we don’t know what can negatively happen in the future so personally I’d recommend most people pay off debt 1st especially if they have more than enough in savings and investments to pay off the debt. If he paid that $5000 off today he’d completely forget about it after his next paycheck and earn that $5000 back within another 3 or 4 paychecks

In the USA, individuals living in cars due to partial homelessness result from a complex interplay of factors. High housing costs relative to income, stagnant wages, and income inequality drive this issue. Job loss, weak social support, medical expenses, evictions, and lack of affordable housing also contribute, while systemic problems and inadequate policies further perpetuate the phenomenon.

Considering the present situation, diversifying by shifting investments from real estate to financial markets or gold is recommended, despite potential future home price drops. Given prevailing mortgage rates and economic uncertainty, this move is prudent, particularly due to stricter mortgage regulations. Seeking advice from a knowledgeable independent financial advisor is advisable for those seeking guidance.

Yeah, you need WAY more in CA to be considered well off because housing is extremely expensive and competitive. Median household income in LA is 65k, and and 30k for individuals. 100k is enough to rent a good studio/one bedroom apartment with amenities. 150k+ is needed for a median condo (600k+). 200k is needed for a median house (880k+). The people who are well off earn hundreds of thousands from jobs (300-500k/year with stock), and then millions if they have a business. Those are the people who will out-compete everyone else.

@Hunchoz Higher than NYC? Wow. I lived in NYC for almost 5 years. Worked at the Big 3 (NBC, ABC, and CBS) and have experience as a freelancer and staff member. I made almost 70k as an AP but I was hourly and had at least 15-20 hours of OT a week. This was in 2018. I've never met an AP who made over 75k (as a base salary). By that point, they were all producers.

The money pie chart is interesting but is perhaps too simplistic for his situation. He runs a business, technically. Which means a lot of items can be deducted from taxes. If he is in front of the camera, for instance, clothes, grooming, etcetera can be itemized. And if he uses his living space as office, he also gets further deductions. So, the pie chart at 3:35 isn't really giving us significant information at all...

He has 40k in crypto and mentioned it did a 4x. So he invested 10k initially. Imagine he paid off the 5k loan and then 5k in crypto. We would have lost out of 20k.

Meaning he could get sick or injured, some other expense can come up, him and his gf could have an unplanned child etc. Basically you probably wouldn’t take out a $5000 loan to invest in crypto, so why not just pay off the $5000 loan now if you have that much in savings and investments and you’ll never have to worry about that $5k loan again and the extra savings from paying off the loan can go right back into savings and investments and build up even faster
