Shanghai is westernized?! What an arrogant statement. May she meant to say modern or modernized. People is Shanghai are Chinese. They speak, act, live and work like Chinese. They don't act or pretend to be a westerner. Modern and cool does not necessarily mean western. Plenty of craps and backwardness in the western world. So don't confuse modern with western. These expats live in china because they find something better in China than what they have in their homeland and they call it western. Does not make sense. Isn't there own western countries not westernized enough for them?

“westernized" ... i hate it when people use this word, what does it even mean... it's as if i go to milan, i say it's so westernized and then i go to new york and say it's so westernized and then i go to tokyo and say it's westernized... every place is unique in its own way. westernization is such an eurocentric term, the world is much more integrated than ever. so i think "globalized" should be the much more apropritate word.

i mean, chiara, are you even italian???? it's not like most italians know how to queue...... talking about pollution, there's always a layer of haze above milan.... and let's not talk about the traffic in rome and mafia controlled poisonous vegetables in naples..... perhaps, with your logic, italy is not so "westernized"....
