You can actually drive away in reverse just as well, and actually more safely and surely if they try blocking or stopping you. No choice of how/where to park is without flaws, but I really think that how she did it is actually better overall, than backing in. Watch a demolition derby, and see whether cars do better going forward or in reverse. Also, and I'm not suggesting anyone do this, but if you had to mow down an attacker in extreme circumstances, doing so in reverse would allow you to much more easily claim you didn't see they were there, you were just trying to drive away from them.

Still holding out for a Toyota Sienna that meets my specs, but essentially my research is good and I’m eager to do a non build to get started. I’ll be bringing my calico cat with me; she’s taken to the lead moderately well. Hope to meet at some point. I heard that you finally got the way Mobile is actually pronounced -- "Mowbill"... I have a Chevron station close to me - the owner hired an older homeless gentleman to come and sweep his parking/gas area twice a day and get up all the trash. He said he just could not stand looking at it and so he asked the gentleman that sleeps close to his station if he would like to earn a little daily cash. Enjoy the journey!

My husband is a truck driver. You have to buy and install a system to heat and cool the sleeper bunk. They are more than $10000.00. So many people don’t add that to their investment in a truck. But some states do not allow idling a truck all night. So we always get one installed when we Buy a truck. Saves a ton of diesel.

Yup! And an APU (auxiliary power unit) is worth every penny IMO. Heat, a/c, and regular electricity for a small fridge/freezer and microwave. Usually trucks that run all night don't have APUs, or maybe you're hearing reefer units running to keep their loads frozen. Non-truckers can't always tell the difference.

I'd imagine she could drive out plenty fast in reverse for the first 50 feet. Also, the blackout cloth in her windshield, though excellent, is still the least stealthy part of her setup when under really bright lights, so having that out of view from the rest of the parking lot was a good idea. No matter where or which way you park, all it takes is a vehicle blocking your path to have trouble making a quick exit. In which case, ramming someone by backing into them is better than driving forward into them.... something learned by watching demolition derby cars last much longer going in reverse. It doesn't smash in the radiator, and gives a much bigger crush zone between you and the impact. She was in a place where just using the horn would probably bring help quickly enough to not have to smash her way out of the corner spot. Also, choosing a parking spot where nobody has any reason to be prowling around it on foot (they can't pretend to be on the way to their own car) it makes the situation clear to her when they do. Information is power. So, I think her choice of parking spot was definitely pretty good, and possibly the best that could be done there.

I am actually a long-haul truck driver (and a new subscriber to your channel)....... not all companies can afford to put apu's (auxiliary power units / generators) on their trucks because they cost many thousands of dollars....and, they don't run very quiet either. So, many run their trucks to stay cool, warm, and keep the enormous set of batteries charged. You have to understand the electronics on trucks ......computer system, refrigerators, fans and such continue drawing power while we sleep. Some trucks need to run at higher rpm's when they idle due to engine manufacturer specs to protect the engine. Also, some trucks have an opti-idle system to where the trucks computer will automatically start/stop the engine to keep the inside temperature in a range the driver sets for sleeping comfort.....the computer automatically does this too to keep the batteries charged. i could elaborate more, but i think you get the picture.....so umm, try not to be to hard on us old truck drivers ok dear. We don't run those big diesel engines just for fun or to annoy people.....hopefully, i have given you a partial glimpse of why we do. =)

Hello , I drive a truck. If they are on all night mostly likely it is a temp control truck that has food in the trailer. Most trucks now a days have a regulator inside so you can control the temp inside your truck the way you like it. In most states you are only allowed to idle your truck for 15 minutes. The larger truck companies get really upset if you idle for to long. If they do not have a tcu trailer then they are running the truck for AC also. They are not controlling the temp inside the cab. Police can come around and fine you if you are caught idling to long. I hope this helps.

Linda let me just say I enjoy watching your videos very much, but with that being said truck stops are for truck drivers and those trucks and drivers work very hard bringing us everything we buy and consume everyday!! When you said truck stops are noisey that's why cause they work!!!! Their for 18 wheelers not cars!!!

Many truck stops call themselves "travel plazas" and cater as much, if not more, to vehicles other than 18 wheelers! I'm a retired over-the-road trucker of 31 years. If one doesn't like the noise of hard working trucks, don't park in truck stop parking lots regardless of what they're called! Plenty of other places to park when you're in a small vehicle.

JAe Right, but when you cover all the windows with Reflectix to keep out light, there doesn’t seem to be a way to crack the windows even with rain deflectors. I have this same setup, and I would like to hear how she gets ventilation. Maybe she left a space at the top and didn’t cover the entire window. Just curious. I switched to curtains on some windows.

  • @robinlee3375

The reason why some semi trucks run all night and others don't. Because some have an APU and others don't. Meaning... they can't get a/c or heat or run their fridge or or whatever auxiliary items they have, without the APU going or the engine. If they have an APU they can shut off the engine. If they don't they let their engine run. It all depends on the truck.

Wow, that window blocking material is great. The truck stop where trucks have to go to a diff section does "sound" a lot better (quieter is good!). looking at that set-up, I would be a lot more relaxed at a stop like that than in a parking lot... imagine the highway stops will restrooms are not that close to the cities tho... more in the middle of nowhere. I do recall passing one frequently right in a small town tho that was right at a highway exit.

How you enjoy the deep south. I've lived in Tennessee and Texas and it is pretty down there. Lived on a lake in Hendersonville Tennessee across from Johnny and June Carter Cash... used to run into them at the local WalMart and yes, Johnny really did dress in all black. Air conditioning refrigerator. Yes. Microwave. Bunk beds. Since this is muggy fla. need air on. Diesel engine. He travels across the country. Comes back for a long week end every three weeks . I’m nice to his out of state driver friends we let em party here- I deliver pets to truckers warehouse after grooming them . . We should appreciate their services. They work hard and obey rules

I can't believe some of the replies you have received about why trucks idle. First of all the refrigerated (refer) trailers are self contained. They have their own Diesel engine to power the compressor. These units are noisy. Avoid parking near them. My truck has a battery powered APU that keeps the sleeper area comfortable without idling the main engine. When the batteries drop to a certain level the main engine starts automatically to charge the batteries. Some trucks have a diesel powered APU that uses a small diesel engine to run keep the sleeper comfortable. Trucks that don't have an apu have to let the main engine idle to keep comfortable. In very extreme cold, below 10 degrees Fahrenheit, most drivers will let their main engine idle because the engine block contracts more than the pistons and can lock it up, requiring it to be warmed up. Drivers have actually built small fires under the engine to warm it up. Also I can set you up to get free showers at Loves if you want.

Thank you Charles for your detailed explanation. There are a couple who have weighed in with very good details as well.. companies that don’t/can’t afford the best equipment in their trucks.. I am so appreciative of truck drivers! Without you we would have nothing! I currently have someone who has provided me the same generous offer as you that I have accepted.. I will keep you in mind should their offer become void. I’m sorry for the delay in responding to everyone as I’ve been without service here and there.. hope you read this!☀️💛😊

Trucks engines normally idle for heat or a/c. Refrigeration units on trailers for the cargo. Some Trucks have APU (aux. power unit) mostly diesel operated. I drive a truck with a refrigerated trailer. I try to be considerate of others that have non-refridgerated units. A truck will average 10 to 20 gallons of fuel a night to idle.

Refrigerator or reepers run all night to maintain the temperature and the difference is they make the same noises. The only time trucks bothered me was when it a reeper. I traveled with my man for ten months on the road before he retired. Get you a rewards card for flying j In fact when we got off the road I played truck sounds. It depends on if truck has on board bunk air or heater. It took 8 batteries to run the parked systems and when batteries got low truck would automatically start up to charge on board batteries. The starter battery was a separate system.

We truckers idled the engine all night according to the weather. Hot or cold we need the a/c or the heat some trucks have generators so they don’t have to idle for that a/c or heat. In perfect sleeping weather 50’s to 70 I personally liked to shut the engine off. Some driver say they can’t sleep w/o the engine noise. There crazy I thought.
