Living in a Subaru during a Snowstorm and Freezing Temperatures with my mom

I am joined by mom this week. We go on a 4 day road trip through the Canadian Rockies, hit up some hot springs and get stuck in a winter storm!
I solo hike, camp and explore the backcountry with my dog while managing a 9-5. Welcome! Weekly outdoors and mountain adventures with my dog.

@@nannaj3239if you lived on one of the coasts we rock proper winters year round because of the thunderstorms in the summer...10cm of snow? We get that in an hour and it will snow for 3 days straight. I've had 7 or 8 feet of snow on the side of my driveway after a good plowing. You're very lucky😊

I always take a full isobutane or isopro canister, by using that valve thingy and putting the can I'm going to fill in the freezer for 10 mins, on the bottom, and a big one on top, open the valve & presto blammo, it fills up, err down as it were. Close the valve & ur good to go. Remember, 3 canister sizes, small 4oz/100g 30 mins burn time or 10-2 cup boils at 3 mins ish each, 8oz/227g 60min, 16oz/450g 2hr but longer boil times at elevation & cold temps, means more fuel consumed, less boils. And even more if there's no running water & ur melting snow!

I had a couple older Subarus, early 2000s that I took the bottom portion of the back seat out for camping and just stored in my house. It's pretty easy to do. Undo a couple of bolts and lift out. You could probably find a KZread video for your specific vehicle. Having the seats fold down completely flat was worth it for me. I almost forgot to mention that I added a couple of old sofa back pillows that were the right height to level out the seat backs or they would actually slightly slope downward in the opposite direction. You could also potentially use that space under there for storage. That's if you don't mind taking out your seat bench. I never had anyone sitting in the back so didn't bother me. I also just left the seat backs down so I had a big flat surface cargo area in the back all the time which I could lay in to relax on a break or to haul stuff.
