I’d live in that shack in your pic..I’ve lived my life on the run..I’m more about having it in the bank and having 100% ownership versus having a huge lawn to mow every 3 days

Thanks for sharing. So funny you should share this. A family member just referred to the small house I bought and am renovating as a shack. At first I was offended, but then I remembered that it's my life and this is all I want and all I need. I can't expect everyone to understand or appreciate my journey and my priorities.

Buying a small 750 SF home, older but decently updated. Price is 180k and was 50k only 3-4 years ago. It is expensive for what it is but it will be mine and within my means (there are very few 'good' deals left). As much as we all want a good deal we all need a place to sleep/stay - and the long term equity is great no matter what happens to the price. There certainly is something to living simply and within your means that is peaceful

I screwed up my life I turned 41 10 days ago I own nothing and I’m very scared and worried about my life…I’m thinking about being a fish processor in Alaska if the gig works out I can make about 20K in a few months and so that every year to sort of semi retire I wanna get a truck and a slide in camper a descent one and with that and other staple investments it is very possible here in America but believe me Sam when I say this wisdom that you bestow in us through your life’s experience is like having a safety guy out there warning us about how we’re about to f**k upsi ain’t thank you for all your time..I don’t think you ever know what you do for somebody or how you impact somebody’s life until they straight up tell ya..So here’s me telling you thanks Sam thank you very very much for all these morsels of knowledge ..Chow

@@loganbeer5110 I hear you folks and I thank you..Problem is some are to tough to learn from our mistakes and stayed in the fire to long…In the end we can’t just exist we live in the mortal world and oil must be stored for a fool is a fool and the wise are the wise and both eat from the fruit of their ways…I thank you both for your humanity and care.. :-)

@alexg1668 So much truth in your comment. It's all in letting go of your past story of yourself and launching forward.

My dream home is a detached small home 600-1000 SF, on a foundation, on enough land to allow a bit of separation from neighbors and no HOA, access to medical, food , nature and a good community. I will likely explore at retirement to seek a future home base as I'm priced out of the current area. Excellent video, lots of wisdom. Would love to see the small homes preserved. Not a fan of the newer tiny homes 10" from neighbors; if they're rude/noisy it's a lot of misery to endure.

That sounds like the house I lived in for 25 years. It's in a small town, on a dead end street. It has 3 bedrooms, plus a full basement. There's some separation from the neighbors. It's well insulated and easy to heat in the winter. The town has a grocery store, hospital, a few restaurants.

I like the sentence "living in. shack uses more of your resources" Mentally it is not healthy to have stuff, even our homes with minimal items is a bit too overwhelming as we were created to live outside with the animals (think Adam & Eve) the closest we get to that, including incorporating gardening in your life, the healthier we will be.

Loved being, staying in a shack by the lake. When my parents retired, it was rebuilt. Bigger outside. Inside rooms bigger but only one room added. It was beautiful. But that “feeling”? Was gone. Of comfort. Cozy. Hearing rain pound down. Life…never stays the same. It keeps changing. Not always for the better either. Sadly. “It’s all gone”. 💔
