But it is number 1 song, Living Thing for the week of January 22, 1977 as I listened to to Scott Shannon’s American’s Greatest Hits on WOMC, FM-104. ELO does have their first song, Showdown in the spring of 1974, but failed to get to the Top 40. ELO’s Top 10 songs are: Evil Woman, Strange Magic, Living Thing, Telephone Line, Turned To Stone, Sweet Talking Woman, Don’t Bring Me Down, All Over The World, and Xanadu (with Olivia Newton John). Their first Top 10 song by ELO is Can’t Get It Out Of My Head which peaked at number 9 on the Top 40 Singles back in February 1975.

You don't have to be high....To me it seems to be about someone (depressed) thinking of committing suicide....."it's a livin thing, what a terrible thing to lose" ...."don't you do it, don't you do it"......45 years ago, I was at rock bottom, thinking of suicide, And in its own way....This song got in my head.... lectured me, and talked (sang) me out of it......ELO helped save my life. I woke up in a mental hospital singing out loud...."HIGHER AND HIGHER BABY..." Fellow inmates looked at me and started joining me In singing it.....the staff told the inmates to stop, but they said "Sammy has been singing it for hours."...(while I was unconscious)
