"Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds" one of the greatest lines EVER!. Robert Marley was way ahead of his time he lived for equality and unity and peace. He definitely influenced a lot of people. #LEGEND!

Eric Clapton performed & recorded "I shot the Sheriff" with Bob Marley's permission. It turned out to be a blessing because it turned on an international audience to Bob and the Wailers more quickly.

There's a lot more to reggae than Bob Marley, even though he brought reggae to a worldwide audience. It was great hearing his songs. Thanks.

you are of course right. My best friend was a huge reggae fan and showed me dozens of cool bands. But Bob Marley's songs are not only absolute classics but it hit the nerve of the time. People and especially the youth all over the world could identify with him. it's rebbelious (granted like most reggae but he had just something about him) he's like the che guevara of reggae :D

As a guy who have been listeting to reggae for the past 40 years i must say i really loved watching your reactions to Bob Marleys songs. Lots of lyrics with a meaning, as with lots of other reggae artists from the same period

In the song War Bob is singing a speech given by Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. The rest is as I understand it and I'm no expert. The birth name of the Emperor is Ras Tafari. His official titles are Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah and King of Kings of Ethiopia, Lord of Lords and Elect of God, and his traditional lineage is thought to be from Solomon and Sheba. To followers of the Rastafarian movement he is considered the messiah or God incarnate. Bob is singing one of his speeches I would guess that Emperor wrote it in a Afrocentric way however I assume Bob is singing to the whole of humanity. As a side note I'm positive the music of Bob has made me a better human. By chance I was uprooted from the states and from Kindergarten to 5th grade I was in a country town in the Caribbean. An experience I would trade for any amount of money. Moving to S. Fl to start middle school I witnessed blatant racism not for the first time but never so mean and frequent. The people of the Caribbean took me a little blond, white kid , into their communit7 like I was family. It was culture shock moving back to the states. Life is to short not love your brothers and sisters and you will surly be surprised at what you can learn and how it feels. THANKS FOR THE LIVE STREAM, MADE ME TEAR UP. Sorry I wrote a book here. edit--Nipsey Hussle looks similar to Haile Selassie I. I think Nipsey was Ethiopian as well.

First track "Simmer Down" is a "Ska" song. This type of music pre-dates Reggae by a few years. It's accompanied by a large brass & horn section and is very up tempo. You can get into really, really good shape dancing to this style of music (as you can well see). lol, good times.

Stephen sounds more like Bob than any of his children. Ziggy had earlier success, then Damien came later, but with a different style and is more popular now. Ziggy still has a strong following.

Bob was a super deep thinker one of the most important artists of the last 100 years. He died young I think he was 36. At the height it is thought that he was supporting around 5000 people in Jamaica. The concert he does after getting shot where he unites the two political party leaders on stage is a must watch. It's on KZread he is fully possessed by something it incredible to watch any of his live stuff he gets in a trance on stage you should check it out. People think Bob Marley only about herb. In reality herb is secondary he had a more important message. All those songs you played almost no reference to herb he was focused on much more important issues.

correction: the concert he did 2 days after he was shot was in 1976, the concert where he united the two political party leaders was 1978.

I was 14 in 1977 when reggae came to the UK there were reggae parties every night and there was a box lorry that would drive around every city and towns playing early reggae out the back they were the best of times until the National Front formed then we had to fight / But all teenagers of all colors would beat the NF back to their rocks, it showed that teenagers and adult of all colors could love and live with each other. PEACE LOVE AND LIGHT. And BJ's Patois is sooo funny.

Natural Mystic is about the end of the world. The Trumpet he mentions is from the Book of Revelations in the Bible. 7 trumpets and 7 woes in which many suffer and die. It's a prophesy, so he's saying don't ask me why. If you listen carefully, means if you pay attention, you see the signs of the end. Bob is extremely versed with the Bible
