In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi begins to cover the assassination of Uthman Ibn 'Affan [r] by discussing the alleged mistreatment of Abu Dharr Al-Ghiffari.
A summary of topics covered are:
-Abu Dharr was among one of the first to accept Islam (between 4th or 6th, disputed), first non Mekkan
-His tribe was known to be brutal and among highway robbers
-He was the first da'ee, converting 2 complete tribes
-The Prophet [s] said about these tribes: "Ghifar, Allah has forgiven them and Aslam, Allah has given them peace"
-Dharr means something minuscule, small or a small ant.
-He missed all the major battles, but was present at Tabuk. The prophet [s] said "Let it be Abu Dharr, May Allah have mercy on Abu Dharr. He is walking alone, and he shall die all alone and shall be resurrected by himself " when a man was seen walking towards them in the distance.
-Abu Dharr had a unique view of life in terms of economics and lifestyle.
-He felt it was haram for a person to own more than what he needs for the day before he goes to sleep. His reason was the verse of Tauba: v34: "Those who hoard up gold and silver and don't spend in path of Allah, give them glad news of fire of Hellfire"
-Rest of the Sahaba understood this to mean "those who hoard and don't give Zakat"
-Because of his unique opinions, the Prophet [s] told Abu Dharr not to take charge of anything. Hadith: "Ya Abu Dharr, verily leadership is a responsibility and I see you to be weak, so never take charge of anything even over two people and never take charge of an orphan's property"
-The Prophet [s] also said about him: "The trees have not sheltered or the sands dusted anyone more truthful than Abu Dharr"
-The Prophet [s] felt Abu Dharr may be too honest or give away an orphan's wealth, etc.
-He battled against the Romans and eventually settled in Jerusalem
-He would pray in Al-Aqsa and wear the same clothes daily, refusing clothes as gifts
-He criticized others around him and was living under rulership of Muwayiah.
-Muwayiah wrote a complaint to Uthman [r], who asked Abu Dharr to come see him in Medina
-Abu Dharr preached in Medina as well, where the locals complained to Uthman [r]
-Uthman said to Abu Dharr "If you wish you can remain here, or you can settle in a close by place to Medina" which shows Uthman [r] was hinting to Abu Dharr that city living may not be for him.
-Abu Dharr asked to move to a rest-stop outside of Medina (Ar-Rabda) with his wife and daughter where he would continue to receive a stipend and supplies from Uthman [r].
-Nearing death, he told his wife to wash him and leave by roadside for help needed for burial.
-Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud, also an early convert, was travelling from Iraq and saw the body, prayed Janaza and buried Abu Dharr.
-The rebels who complained about Uthman's Khilafa brought up this treatment of Abu Dharr, one of the senior most sahabis.
-Abu Dharr is considered to be 1 of 4 Arkan (pillars) for Twelver Shia's.
-The rebels and some Shias wrongfully accuse and claim that Uthman [r] mistreated, humiliated and also whipped Abu Dharr.
-Shias take Abu Dharr to be right hand man of Ali [r], though Abu Dharr had already passed away before Uthman's assassination or any of the other major fitnas that occur.

If Abu Zar view was 100% applicable, then where did the notion of Zakat comes from. If you give everything away what do you give Zakat on?

Why didn't the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do hijra to the town of Ghifar and Aslam? Because the accepted Islam so early. Also, what role did the people of Ghifar and Aslam play in the Seerah?

In my humble opinion and it’s not a fact just my opinion the reputation of the people of Ghifar among the Arabs as bandits is the reason...it wouldn’t look good on Islam that the religion is supported by these people at such an early stage but Allah knows best

Abdullahi Abdinur may Allah protect us, brother you should do your research before posting a question like this. The prophet S.A.W, did correct him, by telling him not to take any position of leadership.

Okay, so the Prophet Muhammad (saws) was a human being with all the human traits except the fact that he received special Divine revelations. That's what the Book of Allah tells us, too. But then our "sheikh" tells us that the Zamzam water is not ordinary water becacaue Bukhari tells him that is could be a regular high energy food, healthy drink, and above all it is the answer to your wishes...you make a wish before drinking it and your wish comes true!!! I tried to look for Zamzam water and its "fazaa'il" ( merits) in the Qur'an. I couldn't find it. That was a big surprise because Allah mentions honey as a remedy for sickness, then how come somehow He, the Most High, forgot (ma'azallah) to even mention Zamzam water in the Qur'an! I am not sure if there is a big fault line in our Bukhari-infected brain, or some huge lacuna in the free Saudi university education system that makes our "shuyukh" deaf, dumb, and blind. Allah gave us just ONE Book and required us to follow it. We yearned for much more....hundreds. Now we are neck-deep stuck in the quagmire of superstition. Is there any way out?
