Hey Mick, you mentioned a Cornish overdrive in this VCQ. You already have one sent to you effectively from us at DevTech Audio, called the ‘Skylight’. It is a Cornish SS-3 with additional clipping options. Sent to you some time last year. Check it out when you have some time. All the best, DevTech Audio (Sydney, Australia)

Couldn't catch the live. But since you mentioned Madison Cunningham early on...Saw her in Northampton Massachusetts on Friday. She was playing with Juana Molina - an artist I wasn't familiar with but by Madison's own words a huge influence on her. Great show. 800 seat theatre, could hear the clicks of the pedals and tap of the feet during the quiet bits. Madison had 2 acoustics and her JM with a properly loud amp on stage. They would play together, then 3 songs solo - repeat. Finished with a jam and Juana riffing on 3 words provided by the audience.

I have Bigsbys on three of my guitars, a Casino, a Gretsch, and a Les Paul. I have no problems with any of them. They play perfectly, they stay in tune, and the Bigsby works fine. Using a Reverend 1” soft spring helps a lot, I’ve found. Beyond that, wind your strings properly at the peg head, lube your nut, and it should be fine, unless you’re using it for dive bombing, which it was never designed for.

Someday, I will hook up all thirteen amplifiers: The Cerberus, one Brotary, one Leslie Simulator, the Vibrochorus, and a Stereo Echo. The neighbors may complain, idk 🤷‍♂

The new Walrus Audio Monumental will be nice for wet/dry/wet rigs. Because you it's a stereo analogue opto tremelo (with blendable amplitude & harmonic). And the pan feature is super cool way of adding controllable movement. I never understood why there weren't more stereo analogue tremelos. Because often the tremelo is last in the pedal chain, and plenty of times run with high-depth / very wet. So, I don't love having that tremelo being a digital pedal.

Hello Dan & Mick… Can’t wait to see y’all again in Leicester. In the mean time here’s a thought for future guests in relation to the younger demographic…Imagine meeting someone 13yrs old, who thought one day during COVID lockdown, I’ll try that guitar contraption (with no family background in music) only to discover they’re really flippin good at it. Then at 17 being on stages with all kinds of famous players and some musical royalty. Imagine if you could get some young talent like that on the show. Can I suggest you keep your eyes and ears open to such a concept. Such talent is typically looking for all kinds of exposure and it would be fascinating to get young perspectives on tone, volume and life on the road. May I suggest keeping an eye on a character like Grace Bowers for starters. I’m sure she’ll make it over the pond in the not too distant future. Young characters with a mature head on them would offer such a fresh perspective. If you ask enough youthful players I hope one or two would bite. 🙂

For me, If what is captured is "far" from what is heard live, the music has been done a great disservice. "Stand and deliver!" NOT "Sit ad manipulate". Also, so-called "metal" has become that every player is presented percussively which is only one valid element of musicality. I am much more attracted to a variety of flavorful elements to savor. That's undoubtably why only the more "ballad" sounding "metal" tunes are palatable for me.

I never use a "cranked" amp because it limits usability. I try to size an amp to the venue and then set it for greatest headroom and clarity as a basis for additional OD and other effects pedals. I control volume with both a volume pedal and the option of a boost (either via a boost and/ or EQ pedal). I control "OD" via pedal stacking. I set up my rig system to maximize artistic (hopefully) dynamic control.

Had to smile at Mick brandishing the Soundtank version of the Tube Screamer. I still have mine on my main board and it has been there since I was 19 many, many decades ago. I have owned, and still own, a few other TS's in much sturdier cases that cost a lot more money but I still prefer the sound of my old "cheap" Soundtank one. Its held together by gaffa tape these days but I don't feel the need to replace it.

BIG thanks for your thoughts and suggestions on tone control and Fuzz. As a result I'm ruminating over stacking some drive/boost/fuzz/distortion pedals. Sometimes the line between all of these can be very thin and even overlap. The Thorpy Warthog is a great suggestion. But I, like so many with this tone chasing affliction, love it all! Picking 4 pedals to stack is the challange before me. Currently I have the LST Bossy Gnome, Ceriatone Centura, FTT Crunchy Chime Boost and thinking of adding a Fairfield Circuit Barbershop. What 4 would you pick, no restrictions or limits, top 4 pedals for individual and stacked drive/boost/fuzz/distortion tones? No multi-effects gizmos allowed.

The consensus opinion on stereo guitar pickups seems to be negative. Stereo projection Is a wonderful concept but, best executed via "mono" guitar input. I enjoy hearing stereo effects through separated speakers as an addition to a wet/dry setup utilizing amps selected for their compatibility. Best of all all the time, is a "modest" minimum goal to continue chasing.

Lately I really enjoy low efficiency speakers. Idealy small magnets with low bass response. They make zero sense in A/B test, cause they are not loud and not much bass. What they allow you, is to run amp in its happier place with more lowend and all the without blowing your head off. Often they are not really lower volume, but lower percieved volume and less pressure, so FOH guys dont notice you beeing loud. Also I can use all the super nice, full frequency pedals without going too muddy and thus haveing ballsier sound (feeding amp with more low end). Very intereteresting world to discover. Very different from EVs, that will knock you from stage at that levels. Issue is, those are mostly vintage speakers, as anything less then 96dB is not made anymore.

I contend that all players need to be heard at all times by each other and at every point in a room. Sound guys need to learn to EQ for separation by frequency range before volume. The band needs to own the sound (and the "guy") and suite it to the venue.

Glyn, sorry we missed you. We did a video ages ago called VCPI. It's worth a watch - the acronym stands for Voltage, Current, Polarity and Isolation. You need to know the first three things so you can work out the minimum number of outlets and the total current draw (and of course the polarities of each pedal). After that, we always recommend going with a supply that has true isolation. There are a lot of good ones on the market - we always recommend TheGigRig first because they are the best and most adaptable. Dan makes them, just for clarity. After that, check out Cioks perhaps - lots of great stuff out there! But that true isolation is REALLY important. Good luck!

It’s a Mesa 50:50 stereo power amp in a custom made box by Zilla. Matched an idiotic 4x12 I had made. Mick here. :0)

Mick: Why do you speak in Dan's name so often when he's sitting next to you? Too much ego? That's really disgusting

It's for a variety of reasons. First, when talking about GigRig products, I know he often doesn't like to blow his own trumpet, so to speak. So someone has to blow it for him. Second, often to jog his memory. But he's a big boy, we've been friends for many many years now. He can speak for me, and butt in when he likes. Between the two of us, the egos left long ago. But if you're noticing mine, it means that your own is on the rampage. Tread carefully.
