LIVE! NASA Mars CHAPEA Mission Complete
#CHAPEA #NASA #MarsSimulation
The four volunteers who have been living and working inside NASA’s first simulated yearlong Mars habitat mission are set to exit their ground-based home on Saturday, July 6
The first Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) mission began in the 3D printed habitat on June 25, 2023, with crew members Kelly Haston, Anca Selariu, Ross Brockwell, and Nathan Jones.
For more than a year, the crew simulated Mars mission operations, including “Marswalks,” grew and harvested several vegetables to supplement their shelf-stable food, maintained their equipment and habitat, and operated under additional stressors a Mars crew will experience, including communication delays with Earth, resource limitations, and isolation.

A lot of people are saying it's not a big deal. Everything was completely simulated by even using a 20 minute communication delay, simulating food rations, supplies, and delays between everything, strict meal plans. They learned a ton from this and its a massive first step.

On Mars you are going to experience the worst case of homesickness. It is better to be here on Earth "wishing" you were on a totally alien Mars, then being on Mars wishing you were here on Earth. Regret always comes too late.

Scientific journalism is in dire need of outreach to bring events and discoveries like this to the rest of the world.

These simulations are pretty common. Though this one is a bit novel due to the 3d printed hab.

Dude that's what I'm saying! Lol who told them to do that is the problem. The speakers take theirs off once crangradulating them. U could almost see them roll their eyes when they came out and were told to put their masks on. Clown world. They thought this crap was over 😅😂. He tells them to put them on and then takes his off lol 😂😂 like those masks would protect against any type of virus 😅😂

General safety, they haven’t been exposed to anyone else for over a year, so their immune systems have likely weakened. Same thing happens when astronauts return to earth from ISS

True it was not very interesting very dumb. People ain't worried about going to Mars, but more worried about peace on Earth

How lame. Asking if they have masks. Like those types of masks are going to protect them from people outside. 😅😂 and then he takes his mask off right away 😅😂😂😂 then they take them off and keep them off after they speak 😅😂 its all a show!! Whos idea was it to tell them to wear them ?

Eh didn't even know it was going on. There's a big difference between being in a structure on earth and knowing your on a distant planet with absolutely zero outside assistance.
