Happy to find this interview, thank you. I too bought this with TV Show Combat in mind. When I play it, I use the names, Hanley, Saunders, Caje, Kirby, etc. My only disappointment is that of the paragraph system and how you can't add new scenarios. I always wanted to watch certain Combat episodes and then try to recreate those stories into Ambush. There was someone who did come up with a variant to play Ambush without paragraph/sleeves but what he posted on the 'Geek' site was not complete.

Loved Combat

I bought Ambush, and a close friend of mine at the time and myself played the game together cooperatively, splitting the squad. We went on to play every mission from Ambush, Move Out, Purple Heart, Silver Star, Battle Hymn and Leather Neck. Many of the missions we played twice. It made a fantastic cooperative game! R.A.F. was another game I just loved, I had the West End version. Awesome interview.⭐

@@BondingWithBoardGamesRPGs A good friend of mine at the time, and I still talk to him today. Scott Eikleberry! We played the living dog snot out of the Ambush system! Great fun! We were able to get two leaders out of the squad composition and it was basically 2 fire teams at that point, working together of course. After we started playing it cooperatively, I never played it solitaire again after that! The funny part was when we'd lose a troop, and we'd get a new replacement, the new replacement was always "on point" whenever we got to the point where we felt we might run into enemy soldiers! How funny is that! Lol! It was rough when we'd lose a veteran trooper, we got attached to them! After all these years I'm looking at pulling the trigger on the latest version of R.A.F. by Decision, again. It was a terrific game just playing as the R.A.F. I don't play solitaire hardly ever though, these days. Much prefer sitting down with friends, sipping suds, and playing ftf. However, I do still have B-17, Queen of the Skies, which was my first solitaire game. I played it heavily too, being a very frequent visitor to The National Museum of the United States Air Force, a 90 minute drive for me still to this day. I was there for the unvieling of The Memphis Belle back in 2018. I met and have Captain Robert Morgan's autograph from an air show in Lancaster Ohio, in 2000. Before the Memphis Belle went on display at the Air Force Museum, they had a B-17G called Shoo, Shoo, Shoo Baby, which I believe they had on loan from the Smithsonian, which is where they returned it.

@@BondingWithBoardGamesRPGs It reminds me of Battle for Germany by Decision Games, which I absolutely love. Downfall is looking to be an even better game with a lot more going on, and with an impressive lineage. I can not wait to get this one in my hands.

We could sure use a reprint or some new version of ambush my gosh that game is amazing

Thanks David. What part of Scotland? I got to go to Ireland due to my whisky channel and then popped over to Glasgow for a whisky tasting with our European fans. Then off to Islay and then Highlands. Great week.

Wargamevault was successful with negotiating with Hasbro for Upfront reprint, they should attempt to do the same with Ambush!

That would be very cool. I could also see GMT giving it a deluxe version which would be nice. Imagine a mounted map with photo realistic board similar to the COH maps. And updated cards!

The initiative track in Downfall is actually very much like the one in Horus Heresy, a 40k themed game from Fantasy Flight games. Not sure what other games have used a similar system. Horus Heresy had orders on little cards which had to be played a round or so in advance, conveyor belt style I believe.

Dear Sir: I recently purchased VG Ambush on ebay. It was good shape except for missing Ambush Player-Aid-Screen. It contains things like squad quality table, weapon type chart, vehicle charts Etc. I went on BGG , and was able to get about 95% of a homemade chart. Your is the latest review of VG Ambush. I was wondering If you could make copies of Ambush player air screen, and e-mail them to me. Reluctant to put my email address on this format.
