First year homeschooling mom here, and you are right... these videos are so helpful. Olyvia is so sweet. I love how she giggles when she makes a mistake. It is clear that you have taught her that it is ok to make mistakes and that she has confidence in herself. We’ve taken some time off from regular school stuff this month, and my daughter overheard this video and asked if we could do a language arts lesson because she misses it. That made my heart so happy. 😌♥️

I love this! My oldest is in third and they are super close in age, so it’s nice to see another student doing the same work. Our routines are basically the same and my daughter would want to show her day too. I know you have to give the disclaimer, but you can tell she is cheerfully sharing her day. Our difference is we have younger children we are usually working around. We have many more years to come before our fourth will be at this point. Also, have you seen the new ecosystems science? We’re so excited about it because our kindergartener has been working through habitats as we work our way through geography and it will line up perfect (given it looks like it will still be over the youngest head). Also, I’m glad to see the reader she has about the Dachshunds. We have a mini we got for Christmas last year and I know she’ll be excited for that fun read. Can you tell I’m ready to place another order?

Great video! So good to see it broken down like this and in depth. Totally not being critical but just passing along knowledge as it's a word that tripped me up before... yay Germanic words and spellings lol Dachshund is pronounced like daax-snd. There are some short youtube videos that have both the German pronunciation and American. I'm a language nerd lol.

Hey Olivia, you are such a sweet girl. Thank you for sharing your day with us. My daughter is a little older, she is doing grade 5 this year and we're also homechooling in South Africa. I enjoyed your geography class and math. I will share this video with her so she can see that she is not the only one taught by mom which she already loves but yawns a lot because apparently I have such a sweet and calm voice it makes her sleepy. LOL The curriculum we use is CAPS our national curriculum and I would love to try out some extra curriculum, perhaps sonlight or the good and the beautiful but I'm so confused about what happens in high school when she has to sit for her grade12/matric examinations so she can obtain her higher certificate. I'm doing research before I change her I know a family here in SA that homeschooled with sonlight, myself I tried it when she was in grade 1 but then I dropped homeschooling due to lack of support which I wasn't ready for the criticism and negative remarks from my mother who is a retired teacher and has zero confidence in me. She believes that a child should go to school. From last year and many thanks to the pandemic I found the courage to PUT MY FOOT DOWN. Her father passed away June 2020, God rest his soul at least he passed having given me his blessing and confidence that he has seen that I know what I'm doing. I prayed for 2 years asking God to give me His blessing and grant me the courage to educate my child and HE HAS OPENED EVERY DOOR AND MADE EVERY PROVISION NECESSARY so I know for sure THE LORD IS WITH ME. We love homeschooling, it is doing wonders for my daughter and I enjoy it myself, I am surprised just how much I never fully grasped in school and only understand now and I am a University graduate. I guess that is on me, I probably forgot because I passed well in school. Anyway thank you so much, you guys in America are a great inspiration. In SA there are many homeschooling families but I have seen less than 5 youtube channels and even they are not consistent that I want to start one so I can share information and help new homeschoolers like myself. God bless you guys I have learned so much from American homeschooling YT channels from stationery, ideas on a lot of staff, you guys are amazing. I just found your channel yesterday and I love every single video of the few I've watched so far. Thank you God bless. Would have loved to see the 5th grader but as you said, ''not feeling this filming thing..'' Lol Pardon me for the essay comment I am just super excited.

What a blessing to see this in your videos thank you so much. Your daughter is very sweet, I cannot help but imagine that if she wasn’t homeschooled and you did not teach her about the bible she would be just like all other little girls her age, mean spirited, envious, problematic, and manipulative. Little girls can be so mean to each other. I am sure her father is so proud of her and you.

Your makeup is on point in this video--not that it's ever NOT but I love it! My 3rd grader is doing ETC books as well as TGTB LA just because my oldest did and I love those books. She is about to complete book 6 and moving into book 7...she loves them! We do them everyday. My 3rd grader loves TGTB cursive as well....and she is even better at it than my 5th grader. My daughter also loves the art at the bottom of the HW pages---sometimes I have to reel her in....you can't color for an hour HAHA! I remember doing that humidity lesson with my daughter not that long ago. You have a dog that jumps in your lap during school--we have a 16 month old who does the same. These are my ALL time fav videos---real life homeschooling lessons live! I ALMOST started a youtube channel because there's not enough of these.

I would really check out their 5th grade LA online as it's free-- you can download the whole thing. If your child likes to read and likes classics, they will enjoy it. My 5th grader is liking it but I had to switch my 3rd grader didn't thrive on it at all so I switched her and I wasn't head over heels for the kinder one so she's doing something else too. It's super piecy-- just not a smooth flow. As a former teacher, every curriculum will work for some kiddos while not for others so just check out the whole LA 5th grade part to see if your son will thrive with it

Graphic organisers, mind mapping, have him type (if he doesn’t know how to type yet look up adaptive typing it’s much better for kids with dysgraphia than touch typing) scribe for him, voice to text. The IEW program is very good for kids who need extra structure with their writing.

Yes! Same question! 1/2 way through K Horizons and we like it (impartial either way!) but wondering if we should switch to G&B math.

That pronunciation is for sow as in a female pig. In this case, it's sow as in planting seeds so they pronounced it right.

It was referring to a garden. So the pronunciation is correct.

Such a good video! What is it about TGaTB math that made you pick it over teaching textbooks? It's our first year of TT for my 3rd and 4th graders but debating whether I should switch to TGaTB math 4 next year for my youngest. ❤️

Have you checked out Singapore? It's so solid-- as a former high school teacher, I always recommend a Singapore based math because they have such a strong program! They also have videos (to teach everything online) if that is the reason that you are leaning towards TT.

@@brittanyengebretson7828 I am super passionate about math-- if it isn't obvious yet! We have a few singapore math ones-- one that compares the different ones out there and another explaining how I use their newest one -- dimensions to teach my kiddos with it. More will be coming as we get a lot of questions about Singapore-- I don't work for them and I'm not affiliated with them (side note). I'm just a super passionate math teacher who highly recommends it since it's so solid!

Do you have any info/suggestions for high schoolers? I have an 11th grader and then my other daughter will be in 9th grade next year. I known you said your older ones don't do videos but if you could do something on high school that would be great. Right now my are kids are doing virtual school through a charter school but my husband and I are seriously considering homeschooling. Thank you.

@@GraceandGrit Thank you. A few of my concerns is teaching the math. I remember doing the stuff they're doing but can not remember how to do it. Also the whole college thing. As one Christian Mom to another, I know its more important to give them a Godley education than to ensure they get into a good college with a promising career but I dont to completely do them a disservice. Thanks again for your reply 🙂

How do you split the time of individual parent led learning between the kids? I have 3 that are homeschooling(1st grade, kinder, and preschool with speech therapy) its so hard for me to split the individual learning(writing, reading, and math)

You can always set up independent work for them to do while you are working with the you youngest. That way the youngest can go play while you focus your attention on the next child. And we have independent work that includes things that help them overall but aren't necessarily part of a specific subject like---- educational screen time (Soo many options out there--- prodigy, adventure academy, abc mouse) -- 15 minutes using one of these gives you that time to work one on one. You can include things like -- writing, cursive, copy work, puzzles, and so much more to keep them entertained like even playing with 10 frames or dice math, etc

Wow, I love this so much. Thanks for sharing. Your daughter is so sweet and smart. I wish more people would take their kids out of public schools and find solid curricula (or create their own) to use at home. This is pure old-fashioned learning, no indoctrination or weird Common Core math.
