Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson revealed in message from Hawaii that a live-action reimagining of Disney Animation’s 2016 hit feature film “Moana” is in development.
The new feature film is produced by Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia via their Seven Bucks Productions, and Beau Flynn via Flynn Picture Co. Executive producers include Auli‘i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the 2016 film, and Scott Sheldon of Flynn Picture Co. Jared Bush and Samoan industry pro Dana Ledoux Miller will also take part in the production. Bush, who was a director and co-writer of Disney’s Oscar®-winning feature “Encanto” and a writer and co-director on Disney’s Oscar®-winning film “Zootopia,” wrote the screenplay for 2016’s “Moana.”
Like its animated predecessor, the film will celebrate the islands, communities and traditions of Pacific Islanders as seen through the eyes of a young woman eager to pave her own path. Moana’s journey of self-discovery and reflection on the lives of her ancestors won hearts worldwide, as did her newfound friendship with an exiled demigod named Maui.

That fact that it’s getting remade this fast only 7 year after the original film is just sad and heartbreaking. The Rock has all the power to help get an original project green-lit by a major studio but instead we have crappy live action remake of movies that are less then a decade old

I gotta admit, the bits where the Rock always performed the best were when he was passionate about his own culture. Jungle movies and Black Adam are one thing. But seeing him do the Haka in Hobbs & Shaw, or voicing Maui are IMO his peak moments. This is something I'm genuinely looking forward to.

Classic and Renaissance era, yeah. Honestly, a lot of them are pretty fun. Not certified hood classics, mind you, but ok. In fact, I watched Mulan recently and I was surprised by how GOOD it was. It justified its existence to me by adapting the actual Chinese myth rather than the animated film.

I was not expecting a live action announcement for Moana to be made after only 6 years it came out. I don't even think Frozen and Tangled are ready for live action treatments yet. Even though we already got that on OUAT which was exceptional. Whatever they got planned, I hope it's good.

🍦I remember one time, I was in the car with my parents, and we were driving by an ice cream place, and I said, "Ice cream! I want ice cream!" And, my father actually stopped the car and bought me an ice cream cone. (I don't remember where my brothers were on that day?) Anyways, I remember thinking "This is a miracle!" 🥰
I'm really excited for the live-action version i watched the animation and it was a very well written
We did not need a live action Moana but a live action sequel I will allow

I just watched moana again, and now this is getting announced. I'm so excited 😊
A remake of a movie that came out not even ten years ago. I get making money but maybe a sequel would be better.
While I am glad that the main actors are coming back, it feels WAY too soon to do a live action remake of this film.

The jungle book changes a few things, I'm actually not a huge fan of the animated version, but when I went out to the theater to watch the live action Jungle Book I felt like it was a very good movie. My son dragged us to watch Lion King live action, and it was so bad. My husband took the best nap of his life, though😅
Well this will be fun! Looking forward to it!
