During its cultural revolution these would all have been destroyed because Mao wanted to destroy old culture. But sane heads made sure cultural heritage was preserved. Visitors to China are told to not talk about those events.

Very interesting documental. Here a curious fact: In XVII century spanish conquerors export goods to orient and import ceramic from China to Mexico then to Spain in galleons, then as it was very expensive they brought some chinese masters to the center area of Mexico called Puebla de los Angeles were the soil was similar to the chinese lands and started to replicate chinese porcelain, then this porcelain changed and acquired its own personality and shape, passed time started to be known as Talavera Poblana beacause spanish did this experiment first in a place in Spain called Talavera de la Reina, so to these days the mexican porcelain its still made and have excellent quality thanks to their roots in chinese and spanish cultures

In old China the quality of the product was very important. Workers were punished if the quality of their work was not up to par. The many shards shown are the result of imperfect results after the high fire. Or pots not chosen by the emperor were destroyed despite being of imperial quality.
