Live A Live (2022) 1440p mClassic #15 Dominion of Hate - Oersted / Odio Lord of Dark ENDING
Ойындар
Live A Live[b] is a 1994 role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Super Famicom. The game follows seven distinct scenarios scattered across different time periods, with two more unlockable scenarios linking the narratives together through the recurring antagonist Odio. Gameplay is split between exploration with story-specific twists, and turn-based combat played out on a grid.
Production began in late 1993, and was the directorial debut of Takashi Tokita. Tokita wanted to tell multiple stories within a single game, with each section drawing inspiration from different sources. Character designs for the seven main scenarios were handled by different manga artists. The music was composed by Yoko Shimomura as her first large-scale project after joining Square.
A remake for Nintendo Switch was released in July 2022, published by Square Enix in Japan and Nintendo worldwide. Reception of the game has been positive, with praise going to its unique gameplay and narrative mechanics, though its short length was faulted. The remake was praised by Western reviewers, particularly its overall design and redone graphics and music, though several noted gameplay elements that had aged poorly. Selling 270,000 units, the original release was considered a failure. Tokita's work on Live A Live influenced his later projects.
Live A Live is split into seven chapters, covering prehistoric, ancient Chinese, feudal Japanese, Wild West, present day, near future, and distant future eras. In each scenario, the protagonist confronts a powerful enemy whose name is or incorporates the word "Odio".[1][9] After completing these scenarios, an eighth chapter set in the Middle Ages is unlocked, which in turn unlocks a final chapter tying the narratives together.[1]

I really like the fact that they did a separate set of sprites for Odio-Oersted. The cape is finally fully canon. Yay.
Oersted is a man who truly lost everything... Lost his comrades... Lost his king... Lost the faith of the people... Lost his home... Lost his love... And most of all, lost his heart. I can't possibly hate him. I can only mourn him.

Considering the game's themes all revolve around hatred, not hating Oesterd is probably a good idea. The game does give you an opportunity to kill him after you defeat Pure Odio. Do that, and the heroes will be stuck in the Dominion of Hate forever. Essentially, if you kill him, he wins; you prove him right, that humans will never move beyond their base instincts and hatred. 'Thus the cycle continues...'

Indeed. But he also let it all cost him his soul. In the end, he let himself slip into hatred... He became the demon himself. And that was his failing, that he didn't acknowledge the counterpoints that came up. He didn't acknowledge the child. He didn't acknowledge Hasshe's, or Uranus', words... While I can see why he did it, I don't outright sympathise... He put others (in other parts of time too) through worse, or at least equally bad, and they didn't see fit to turn... And in this case, that was something he failed to acknowledge.

@The Quarter Guy Like you said in your video about this game, if one bad day can turn a man into a monster, then Oersted had the worst day ever.
The script in the English version is really something else. Not to say the Japanese one is bad, but I believe it's literally just the original game's script with barely anything changed. And then there's the absolutely sublime voice acting. It's great all the way, but Dario Coates completely hits the ball out of the park as Oersted/Odio.

I wish they could have updated one of the references the game makes. The wrestling match on TV in the Near Future Chapter is between Keiji 'Great Muta' Mutoh and Mitsuharu Misawa. It was the same in the 1994 original, but the reference worked much better in 1994 because both were mainstays of All Japan Pro Wrestling. Now though, Mutoh's retired and Misawa's been dead for over a decade and nobody outside of hardcore wrestling fans would know who these guys are. An updated reference would've been nice is all I'm saying. Maybe Shinsuke Nakamura vs Kazuchika Okada.

Dario Coates' role as Odio is so epic and terrifying that it makes Mark Hamil's role as Malefor in the Legend of Spyro trilogy look tame in comparison. Not to mention it's far better filtered. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fX-euquLmq65qrw.html
Playing as all of the end bosses is a nice and unexpected twist

Quite a heel turn
This ending in a nutshell: Odio/Oersted: "I've won... But at what cost...?"

37:42 That's not a demon speaking.... that's a man, betrayed and broken, pleading for someone, _anyone_ , out there, to believe in him again. It's so sad...

It makes for a notable (and somewhat jarring) contrast to both the original game and the Japanese version, where he ends with an evil laugh. I agree, this ending is better. Even within the influence of Odio, all Oersted really wanted was validation… and now, everyone who could validate him was either killed or scared away.

Agreed. For what flaws Oersted may have had, he turned to hate out of despair, not because he enjoys it. Him finally coming to enjoy doing evil would not fit.

This was bold of them way back in the day to let you play the story where the bad guys won, and they went the extra step to make it even more depressing in the remake.

They also made an even worse ending in this remake where Odio instead gives up and makes the bosses blow up the universe instead.
I do like this departure from the evil laugh he gives in the original game (and this game’s Japanese dub, rather jarringly). Within the hateful influence of Odio, there’s a warrior who still wants what he always did - validation. Someone to recognize his strength and bravery. But his vengeful acts came first, and now anyone who _could_ validate him is either dead or hiding miles away.
He's rocking the darkened look and the cape

@@zekromtrainer1222 His hatred made him not just a demon, or lord of dark... It made him the God of Hatred, the very physical incarnation of hatred itself. Odio means "Hate" in Latin, while Dio means "God" in the same language.
the cape was actually streiborgh’s
Love the ending credits theme. Beautiful ... tragic ... and empty. Highly reflective of Oersted.
In the end he regrets everything. As If Ódio was controling him
I love when games let you play as the villain. So I was obviously forced to play this after clearing my first characters Dominion of Hate.
The greatest hero, Odio/Oersted.
Was I the only one who thought o d o had a horn until seeing his sprite in the remake

No, this shows that whoever you choose as a player has plot armor. Otherwise he would had won since the very first time
My Favorite boss was Odi Wan Lee he looks too bad ass to be a villain and the scenario itself is emotional which makes him more remeberable

Sheesh, even Demona from Gargoyles who hates humans with a genocidal passion would tell Oersted to calm down.
Nice video. I would like to appreciate how the pink cavegirl manages to look hot despite her simple design. It's so cruel watching these huge bosses clobbering the little men lol, there is no contest
