Little White Lies by Aurelio Voltaire - World Premiere Song from The Black Labyrinth

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Scroll down for lyrics.
This is one of the songs for my upcoming album, The Black Labyrinth which is an unofficial sequel to the film Labyrinth and a tribute and requiem to my musical hero, David Bowie. The album is a musical in every sense of the word so all of the songs together tell a story. Well, it's really more of an epic tale!
This song takes place at a point in the story when our protagonist is told by a goblin thief outside of the Labyrinth that inside he'll find a caterpillar with an English accent wearing a scarf who will direct him through the maze. However, when he arrives he finds instead a small, white snake (who has clearly eaten the caterpillar and the caterpillar's wife!). The snake gives our protagonist directions but time and time again, he ends up standing directly in front of the snake! However, each time the snake gets bigger and bigger until he's large enough to eat our hero!

Little White Lies - by Aurelio Voltaire - Lyrics
Do you think you'd like me or would you turn and walk away fast
if I told you from whence I came and all the sordid details of my inglorious past?
I'll tell you why I'm afraid. Would you leave me for dead or would you come to my aid
if I don't tell you some pretty words, sure to keep you coming my way
I never meant to lie but there are things we do and say to get by,
little white lies, a small surprise how big they grow in size.
It all starts simple enough, your present is dark because your childhood was rough.
So you shed your skin and you changed your name
in the hopes of putting air between you and the pain.
So grab a mask, fill up a flask and slither like a snake into the Masquerade.
Now, you've come so far and you feel like a star
and you hope they never figure out who you really are.
You never meant to lie but there are things we do and say to get by,
little white lies, a small surprise how big they grow in size.
I never meant to lie but there are things we do and say to get by.
Little white lies we tell ourselves like, "Everthing's alright."
I'm just a snake in the wall but,
it's a wall you walk by and
if I say the right words then
you're going to be mine!
I never meant to lie but there are things we do and say to get by,
little white lies, a small surprise how big they grow in size.
I never meant to lie but there are things we do and say to get by.
Little white lies we tell ourselves like, "Everthing's alright."
I never meant to lie, but...
I never meant to lie, but...
I never meant to lie, but...
I guess I had to lie.

The Lair of Voltaire, I don't know if you'll see this, but your music has been an important part of my life for so long ever since I first heard your music as a kid from Billy and Mandy. Alot of your songs helped me get through my sister's passing, and you making an album in tribute to David Bowie and Labyrinth has more impact than you could possibly know. My sister and I watched that move almost every day shortly before she passed. It hurts to watch it now but, I think I'm ready to see it again. Thank you for making music that hits me right in the heart and reminds me of her, and the late great David Bowie. Thank you Voltaire, keep being weird, creepy and amazing in all the best ways.

Well, this is some crazy-welcome news. I didn't know a new album was in the works (I'm not all that fast on social media, so not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere yet). - Love this new song. You're one of the few artists I can think of whose latest works can rival their earliest works, because I feel you're always trying to implement something new or different, maybe add or subtract a new style or a different theme to keep yourself passionate about what you're doing, and it always shows on the record. Your latest albums always end up being my favourites because of this despite still loving your older content, so I am very happy to hear a new one is coming! - The UK is on lockdown right now and things are pretty gloomy here, trust a goth to bring some light into the darkness! :)
