I've played this sports for over 30. The one coach I will always remember had this type of humor with us. Thats the only team I ever played in that never lost a game in the payoffs. We would end the regular season with a 500 record. Then came the playoffs. None of us felt pressure, but we all unconsciously some how knew. It was time to take it serious. Our season record combined for 2 years was 17 win 19 loses. In the playoffs in 2 years 12 win 0 L and 2 Championship. Even though he talked like this to us, we knew it was all in fun and kind of always looked forward to his next joke. It let us know he was in a good mood. When he wasn't like this, it meant practice was about to get hard. Because he meant business.

"This is no time to be sober." killed me!🤣🤣🤣 I've been driving a yellow 2001 Xterra since 2007 and when my kids were still in school I told them to tell people that their daddy drives a short-bus! When I would pick them up after school I told them they were "riding the short-bus home!".

I remember back in the LL days when i was pitching my coach came up to me when i gave up a couple of walks ad asked me " hey what's your mom cooking for dinner tonight?" i said liver and onions. then he asked if i was anxious to get in there and eat it and i said "NO" then he said well if you walk another guy then you ill be eating sooner then you thought.. next guy went down swinging.

In the 70's Coach Lewis was a butcher and our team slogan was, You Can't Beat Tom's Meat! Took a nasty one in the hand one day while I was pitching and it dislocated my thumb. Coach came to the mound and said, "I can't believe you let that $%#!@% on." While saying this, he took my hand and jerked my thumb back into place. He looked at me funny after and said, "Now get this *&$%# out or I'll put in someone who can!" Thanks Coach!

I wasn't exactly like that, but I did allow the kids to punch me in the shoulder if I made a mistake . . . as long as I could punch them in the shoulder if they did. I told them we sucked when we sucked and asked them to tell me why, without blaming anyone in particular. I asked them why we should do things, who they wanted to lead on the field. Very democratic and team oriented. Yeah, talked about video games and asked the kids if they brought Tonka trucks along if they were playing right field. It's all fun, as long as you learned something. About the game or yourself.

The system is broken and corrupt and people often end up on the wrong side of it for petty stuff. Either way, people make mistakes. The only ones who never ever have any infractions and no record are generally sheep/NPC types who buy into the “upstanding citizen” Koolaide drinker mentality. As long as he isn’t a predator or have crimes against children, it doesn’t matter what he did. He passed the background screening to be a coach so that’s all that matters.

He’s not doing it to bully them, you can tell he’s just joking around with them. He’s probably like this with them in practice too. The kids know when he’s joking around like this he’s just trying to cheer them up in a slump or keep their moral up. The kids know it’s not a personal attack because they know he’s joking around like he is practice.

This man is clearly an alcoholic in early recovery. But he is hilarious. I only pulled this sort of stunt once: my 11 year old son, an excellent catcher and 2nd baseman, insisted on pitching. Yes well, I went out and asked, "where do you think you should play, right now?" He replied, "right field"? I said, OK, and remember, there is no crying in baseball.
