I loved it that he was known as Little Joe, as next to the others he was little, and he was the baby of the family It was only said as an endearment, Pa said it the most, Hoss called him little brother and Adam called him Joe the most Whatever he was called, he was gorgeous Little Joe forever Lynne

No serious point, DrP, just a fun thing for Bonanza fans and especially the thousands of Little Joe/Michael Landon fans out there. There was some discussion about the use of the name "Little" Joe, and some people were under the mistaken impression that Hoss was the only one that really used it much, and that Adam hardly ever used it. I knew that wasn't correct, so I just took a sampling to show how much they ALL used it. The first one to say it in the very first episode, in fact, was Adam.

Up until Jr. High I was known as 'Little Jeannie' . I think it is a term of endearment, in the French, especially among family and friends, but can be used to make fun of. However/emember the episode about Hoss and the flapjack contest, the gambler who is sitting in the saloon with his friend, says 'Little Joe' in a derogatory way, referring to his small bet. Also, since Little Joe is the last son and his mother was French, she probably would have used 'Petit Joseph' but that was as his 'Mommy'. I think that Little Joe even has a smaller horse than than his father and brothers and even type breed of horse. Little Joe just hops up on Cochise, effortlessly, without hardly ever putting his boot in the stirrup.
