It shouldn’t have ever came down to this to begin with. To use a child for a “social experiment”, that in itself is already cruel. Shame on the parents really, I am a father of a beautiful 4 year old girl and I could never do such a dumb thing. People should already know we live in a messed up world, this should come at no surprise even much less use a child to prove a point we all already know. Bless that little girls heart though for her courage and I pray this dumb experiment doesn’t affect her.

@@parasite_paddy I raise both my kids to love and respect everyone, no matter what race or color, wealthy or poor, doesn’t matter, I will always raise my kids with moral values. Even when they are persecuted I teach them to always love and show compassion. My point I’m trying to make is using an underage child who probably doesn’t even know why she’s doing what they tell her to do and I just hope it doesn’t affect her in the long run. Children , especially her age are still developing and learning, each parent is different in raising their kids but as for me, I could never put my child to go through that for a “social experiment”.

That was my first thought. Not that she was homeless, necessarily, but that a little girl who was so unkempt was probably allowed by her parents to roam the streets and such, whereas parents who had taken such care to dress their child nicely would likely be very concerned that she was lost. Not all "poor" people are dirty and disheveled. There are lots of people who are quite poor who still take the time to dress their children neatly and make sure they are clean. Personally, I would be concerned about ANY child I saw alone. I have actually asked children like her if they were ok, or needed anything, but they usually are just allowed to go out alone by their parents.

AboniEBeat yes and no. Some kids are purposely dressed like that to scam people, the child is taught to give the money they get from people to the scammer who “employs” them, and said scammer uses the money for themselves instead of necessities for the kid. Essentially, those kids would be trapped in a sort of slavery where they work for no pay. And giving those kids money would encourage the scammer to keep sending the kid on the streets as it’s benefitting them. So you wouldnt be helping the kid on the contrary you would be giving them more work to do. That is not to say that all kids are in that situation, some might be actually in need of help but due to the scenario i described above most people choose to avoid the situation all together since its safer and less complicated to do so. Hope this helps, anyone please correct me if im wrong.

Monika what does being European or American have to do with it? I’m actually from the states, so what’s your point? I don’t know about Europe, but I don’t give AF where you are here in the states, I guarantee you if a child this young walks into a restaurant alone and looking like this, the authorities would be called immediately and/or there would be several people buying food and/or looking out for him or her, asking where their parents are etc. Even in the portions of our country where there are many homeless, including families and minors, you’ll likely never see homeless kids this young wondering around by themselves.... at least not ones that clearly look homeless/dirty/etc.

This definitely depends on what country you're at. Here in the Philippines it's not easy to trust strangers, rich/poor/beggars. Kids like that here in Ph most often used for crime. A kid once spit on me cause I gave him a food rather than money. I was just a student, and have no money to spare. Cruel world.

As a Westerner who moved to live in a relatively poor country with a failing social security system, I can relate all too well to this prejudice. Because, I can see it happen on a daily basis. I'm not going to make any excuse for people's bias. Although it is to a degree understandable, it still is morally wrong. But there is another aspect to this problem that this video does not address, but it is very much a factor in the real world. There are a lot of criminal networks that exploit poor children as "professional" beggars (and sometimes also as pocket thieves). It is very important to realize that this is not the kid's fault, they really don't have any choice in this. But, if you try to help any of these kids, you will almost guaranteed end up in trouble with their "caretakers" in no time. Even worse, a lot of these kids have already learned very early on that any interference by well intended strangers will result in this being violently taken out on them for their "failure" to let this happen. It is a difficult problem with no easy solution. In many countries, this problem can only be tackled when governments decide to go after the criminal networks that exploit these children. Sadly, it is also rather common that local officials are also personally enriching themselves from these crimes through kickbacks and other forms of corruption. Only when people collectively stand up and say that this has to end one way or another, will this rather profitable(!) business of exploiting poor children stop.

And when these children grow up, they get used to "easy money" and become new generation criminals.

That's so true though...by giving them money we're just feeding into the system, even though we're trying to help the kids. Everything they receive goes back to their employers, the employers profit, send the kids out again. It becomes a cycle.

I have been to Tbilisi many times, and the place is crawling with homeless people; men, women, and children- it's just the way it is. Of course a lot less people are going to stop for a homeless child on the street, they're everywhere. But a well dressed child gives off the illusion that that child was abandoned or is missing, because they're not supposed to be there. They have a home to get to. That raises a lot more emergency to people passing by. I understand and appreciate what Unicef was trying to do with this social experiment, I'm just saying it's a little faulty and problematic. Maybe if the experiment was conducted in somewhere like Connecticut, things would have been different.

I've never seen someone trying to help others by giving excuses like that, it doesn't have to be that actress you should help. Just help anyone around you that genuinely needs help. Doesn't matter if people has seen you doing it or not. Charity and doing the right thing ain't about likes and sugarcoating words. When I was in trouble.... people only make comments like these comment section did. Would only help when it does not affected their position.

I would call police if I saw lost kid without parents or adults. Sometimes I see poor kids but they're always with their mothers (at least it looks so but maybe they aren't). They walk together and beg for a bit of money and when you give them a bit, they ask for more and then more and more. Maybe I should call police in this situation as well but they don't stay at one spot so it would be meaningless.

That guy who said "can you take her out please?" Is a cold, heartless, and rude living creature. Nobody deserves to be treated differently...everyone needs to be treated the same...even if they are poor or rich. It doesn't matter. We are all humans, and even if this is just an experiment, we all must be treated fair.

In the poor clothing, her posture doesn't look very approachable. Her arms are crossed. She looks defensive. Her expression appears guarded. Plus, it is not strange for kids from poor families to wander the streets unattended. They are often left to their own devices. A poor kid wandering the streets is not necessarily lost or in trouble. I mean, she wasn't even crying or soliciting help. So since it looks normal, people just ignore it. In the rich clothing, she looks very vulnerable. Her arms are down by her side, her expression is open. Plus, it is not normal for a kid from a wealthy family to be left unattended in the streets. She stands outs, so people pay attention.
