Humans try to preserve certain species of animals from extinction, just like the Aliens did in this movie, the difference is that the aliens don't intervene in normal life for humans but humans interverne in the lifes of animals and is the cause of many extinctions.

Actually their "arc" is how angels looked before being modernized! "demons" appearances are similar to angels

I thought the ending was a reference to Adam and Eve and the tree. Since one of the things mentioned in the movie is about how the main character is not religious and his family is, it makes sense that in the end the children are placed in a new world like adam and eve were

The plane scene was done so well, it looks so real.

i'll never forget this movie. i think about it often. i remember how my mom was repainting our living room and the couch was closer to the TV than usual and how i saw the scene of the pl*ne cr*shing...as someone who has an unshakable fear of that kind of event it has never left me. it truly has stuck with me to the point that i refuse to watch that scene ever again out of existential fear my fear is so deep i dare to not even mention it despite not being superstitious, i cannot bring myself to type it out, hence my use of asterisks

Oh my days. I was so shocked when the father of Caleb found out those numbers and what they meant - forever will I remember this.

I remember watching this with my sister in dvd and feeling extremely sad and hopeless and scared because that was the first time I thought of the concept of death and how my life was meaningless in the great scheme of things. 15 years later, I don't think I have leave the depresión this movie put in me.

This was undoubtedly one of my favorite Nicolas Cage movies, this was a pretty unique concept for a story.

Every religion has same stories. Like in Christianity adam and eve story , In Hinduism also there is a story of Manu and Satroopa, they were sent by lord Brahma on Earth to populate it and start life. And according to Hinduism end of earth and whole solar system is known as "Pralaya" and just before the Pralaya god will come on earth and save some humans, animals and variety trees to start life again. And this is a never ending cycle. LIfe or the age of one cycle is 4.4 billion years

I’m not religious, but i’m a sucker for hidden references, especially those with a religious tone. I believe that the aliens were angels of a sort and this was kind of a day of reckoning, in which the two children restart the human race (which is different from the day of reckoning but you get the idea). I think that the two children were like adam and eve, and in a couple scenes they are shown holding two bunny’s (like noah’s ark) so when the other spaceships are seen i believe that they are there for the animals and that there were no other people that could interact with them.

I watched this movie when I was probably in high school.. I kinda believe those aliens are what humans had believe are angels... For a very long time probably those aliens are the one who tells some certain people about disasters to come upon earth... Maybe as time passes... They end up choosing children as their prophets and taking them to their paradise like Planet because children are the embodiment of innocent and goodness. That tree on the end of the movie was more of the tree of the Eternal life in my opinion.

They aren't human at all, but a future version of what human consciousness would become... I think. Physical form is no longer necessary but can't they just upgrade the children too? Humans, at our state currently, are not evolved enough to live correctly in stasis with our surroundings, largely because we can only understand cause and effect. Every object is simply energy in hard form, that's why a rock can still be burned at a high enough temperature, so we think to get that energy out, we must use some kind of combustion etc. Until human consciousness evolves more, it's all for naught.

Listening to this recap alone terrified me, i couldn't imagine watching the movie. The idea of knowing all of these terrible events are gonna take place, especially your very own death and not being able to prevent it is horrifying. Well this movie is like an origin theory or it is actually. Earth could be one of those planets that the aliens chose before the a previous planet dies from extinction. It's like a cycle. Love the concept and it speaks from all belief system.

I remember this movie so well from when i was a little girl, I remember crying so hard because of it. It made me have an irrational fear of the world ending at any moment until i was like 16, im 18 now lol i will literally never forget the scene of the animals burning alive

I know that feeling. Especially when reading the bible and you hear the sounds of "Trumpets" or something...in the distance (could be a train passing). I always though an Angel was blowing the trumpet signifying the end of the world or Something......... Something Unpredictable. *shudders*... (that's just me though)

This movie could be a weird perspective on god. Since we don’t know where we come from or how we started (other than evolution) and the Bible believes god put Adam and Eve on earth to procreate, this movie might be saying it wasn’t god that put the first humans on earth, but aliens who took human children from another planet to procreate on earth.

Every when I complete video I felt like watching one full movie in 12 min. Great explanation.

As a person growing up in religious family, I can't help to think that those "Aliens" are more closer to Angels. In the bible, it says that a great trumpet will sound, and God will sent out Angels across the four corners of the Earth where they will gather chosen people from one end of the world to the other. There's also a significant influence of The Tree of Life where both kids was sent representing as Adam and Eve.

This was one of those fever dream memories i knew existed but could never find. Thank you so much i have been thinking of this movie for YEARS.

True! I think we may have guessed the ending though if we knew their names were Adam and Eve, or like Noah and his wife’s name or something. I liked the surprise but I agree it would’ve been cool if they were able to work that in there without the plot becoming obvious. Thought this movie was great but I wish there was more shown at the end of the new planets the kids and animals were being located to.

The Twilight Zone did episode Probe 7 Over and Out , aired 1963 where two people the last survivors of a global thermonuclear war are a man and woman named Adam and of 'course Eve

I also liked how Nasa made a response to this movie too, especially on the megaflare bit

The last scene where the two kids ran towards a tree personifies Adam and Eve . They will start life from begining and the intelligent being was a image of God , thus it wanted to say that life is not static and will thrive with or without the past.

It seems pretty obvious to me that the "aliens" are a representation of Biblical angels. Not sure how that seems to have eluded so many others based on the comment section and Myster Recapped's interpretation. Seems pretty purposeful and blatant to me, especially considering the apparent wings, Adam/Eve + Reckoning similarities, and Nick's family's (mother/father) devout belief.

Not to mention the world which the kids get sent to is a beautiful landscape with a tree, instantly gave me a garden of Eden impression. And if I caught the narrator correctly the aliens selected a collection of animals to take as well, which only paints the picture of Noah’s Ark.

In the bible angels do not have a humanoid figure, they are very more disturbed, so not they are not basic in angel, now of course anyone could say, oh but the meaning of the movie was the end of the time god for any reason.

If the young boy was writing numbers what were his numbers for? I've never seen the movie just the review but from what was said in the video it seems like he wrote numbers for events that will soon happen on earth which makes it seem like its setting up the fact that the earth survives, also from the review it doesnt seem like he takes the paper with numbers on it. So like, do the numbers correlate to problems on earth or problems in whatever new place there in, in which case it seems weird that the boy wouldnt keep the paper.

This was cre apt and amazing I started to watch this video once and never finished it I think k I got 2 min in but good recap!

I love this movie! Especially the plane crash scene. Yes, it is the big wow that Hollywood puts into all their movies and incredible CGI, but I still love it!

I find it kinda fun binge watching videos of Movies Recapped, Mystery Recapped, and other same channels. It's like having a movie marathon with less time :3

Those smooth BLACK STONES (I dont knw what it called or it scientific name) can be found (used to be in abundance) on our local island (and I believed in other sea bound tropical islands also) and known as "Batu Pulau" by the locals. Its used to be popularly as aquatic decorations n in landscaping until excessive demands starts to make them scarce. Sadly, these in turns hikes their prices higher, making them lucrative to be smuggled out of the island and sold.

I remembered watching this on the bus when we had a high school fieldtrip. I was the only one awake and the driver played it for me to watch seeing that I was wide awake while my classmates were all exhausted and asleep. After that I kept on reflecting and was unable to focus on our trip and suffered insomnia.
