I find it very interesting to see how the different shows put the teams in different perspective. If this were Med, you would automatically be on Dr. Charles' side. She is his patient, the police are interfering in his treatment of her. But because this is P.D. - you're actively following the investigation. You want it to be resolved and don't immediately think about treatment. Thus his interference puts him in a bad light. The framing of the different viewpoints is done brilliantly - even though neither party is in the wrong here.

To be fair, not only was Dr Charles completely in the right, not only avoiding any lawsuits by going through the proper procedure, but he's also the psychiatrist meaning he has a better understanding of when she is ready to talk than any cop could have. She was close to unresponsive and then went crazy and attacked a staff member once already, how do you know she isn't going to snap again and snatch the gun from the holster instead of a knife? Sure, the staff were a little aggressive in rushing her, but he does not deserve any hate for following procedure and doing what keeps the most people safe at the given time.

As a med professional- Dr Charles is 100% in the right. Such patients well being is doctors first priority - everything else doesn’t matter. Even if the roles were reversed, say PD wanted to talk to a suspect in such state, the doctors and nurses would still never allow it.

I see a lot of comments bashing Dr Charles here. And while I agree that the two nurses definitely went in way too hot to sedate the girl, I think Dr. Charles was right in that it wasn't the right time to interview her yet. Eye witness accounts are notoriously unreliable, and then you add in the fact that she's a young girl who has just been through such a dramatic event... there is a big risk that her testimony could point the cops in the complete wrong direction.

It was probably more of a subconscious reflex action than an actual planed strategy. When attacked people do one of two things - Flight or Fright. They run like Hell to get away from the danger. Or freeze up & play dead to make the person/thing threatening them think they're no longer alive. Her brain decided on Fright - aka playing dead in order to survive. She more than likely would have fainted. & her sister would have fallen on her as she was shot further protecting her. Young children (& animals) will often opt for the Fright/Freeze option when confronted with danger. Because they are aware they cannot out run an attack. & for those who like to rip apart & bash discussions like this. Saying "Oh but it's just a TV show. You *KNOW* it's all fake." The story on the show may be fictional. *BUT* it's was written using multiple real world examples of similar situation. & psychological accounts of what people actually will do when faced with situations like this.

The girl just lost her entire family. She is in a psyche ward. She attacked the medical staff there. Tell me, is there any indication that she is capable of helping Erin out, even if she said she wanted to? The problem with the girl now is, not only is she traumatized, she is not rational. She is a danger to herself even. Really, Erin... what were you thinking? You think that interviewing her can solve your case any faster, when she can't even think straight?? She is in the psyche ward for a reason!

Though Erin's actions comes from a good place Dr. Charles is right, he's the right person to determine when the poor child is ready to talk to the police. Forcing her to do so before she's ready could potentially do far more harm then good.
