Little Amal on her Walk, arriving in Antwerpen, Belgium 🇧🇪 (8 Oct. 2021)

Little Amal is a puppet of 3,5 meter (almost 12 feet). She represents a refugee girl, coming from Syria and is on a quest to find her mother. Amal means hope in Arabic.
Today, 8 October 2021, she arrived in Antwerpen, Belgium. Before, Little Amal visited several other European cities and will end her "Walk" in Manchester, U. K., on 3 November 2021.
This spectacle asks attention for all of the refugee children and is a plea to give them a good new life, to let them feel welcome and accepted. A lot of the refugee children are never reunited with their mother or family in general.
The skills of the artists are amazing. The person inside? He's controlling Amal's head and face movements and is walking on STILTS to let her walk fluently.

Those were indeed special moments to meet Amal. You immediately consider her a person, not a giant puppet. The company has been travelling all around the world with her, and she was heartily welcomed everywhere. Thank you for your comment, Terri Jo! 😀👍

There have been visits to Antwerpen from other giant puppets in the past. Much taller ones than Little Amal is. One time they were elephants. I never went to see those spectacles. Although l knew only for a few days she would come to Antwerpen, l planned to go this time and l made sure to be early and have a good spot to record a video. Little Amal had been in Brussel and originally it wasn't planned to come to Antwerpen too. But a few social and cultural societies convinced them to come anyway. Little Amal walked a couple of blocks further after her arrival and welcoming on this square. The square in front of the Antwerp opera house. That's the building you could see. There would be too much of a crowd following her, so l decided to make due with the footage l had. Today, Saturday 9 October, she will be welcomed amidst the giant puppets of Borgerhout, a suburb of the city. Little Amal will walk along on their annual parade. Truly appreciate your response, Emily! Thank you! 💙👍

There have been other visits to Antwerpen by giant puppets in the past. This time l really wanted to see it! And l was lucky to have a good spot for the recordings. You can find a lot of videos on YT about the other cities where Little Amal has been. She even met the Pope. l found out, she was in Köln too. I don't know for other cities in Germany. Maybe you have seen some of it on the news? Thank you for watching and your response. Truly appreciated! 💙👍

Very interesting... Vale dance is a common dance form in northern part of India(different names thou). It tells us that music, dance, arts..knows no boundaries or country. No superiority, inferiority or discrimination. The music that accompanies the puppet, is so heart touching 🥲

That's a correct idea, Leon, and that is what this spectacle was all about as well. There are thousands of refugee children on their own, scattered all over Europe. They should be made to feel at home and safe wherever they end up. Being welcomed, being accepted and helped to get on with their lives as well as possible. It's hard enough for adult refugees, let alone for children! Thank you for watching and your comment. Truly appreciated! 💙👍

As a child searching for her own mother, this would be difficult to witness! It would make her so sad explaining her raising her hands to her eyes. Sweet Amal.

Little Amal is "just" a giant puppet, but we all empathised with her, how she showed being sad and insecure, in search of her mother. We then think of the many children who are going through this for real. Fortunately there was a happy ending, as you might know, as Amal was reunited with her mother in the U.K. Thank you for your comment! 💙👍

It was quite eerie indeed. I think the whisperings were meant to be the thoughts of Little Amal, full of despair and frustration, but also of excitement and hope. At the end, the "amal...amal...amal..." -which means hope in Arabic - would show she still had hope or got hope again to find her mother and her Walk would have a happy ending. At least that was my interpretation. Thank you for watching and your comment! 💙👍

Very interesting! Was her hair blowing in a breeze, or was there a fan involved in that? I was watching the ladies moving her arms, and how they had to be coordinated with the operator, yet they seemed to have some movements planned. Thanks for the effort in providing this for us!

It was quite windy, so her hair was blowing in the breeze. I found that to be a wonderful sight, because it made it look so real. I'm sure the movements are known by now. Little Amal is on her way for months already. She will have had a walk of 8000 km (almost 5000 miles), when she ends up in Manchester! I suppose they also would have prepared and followed a kind of script, to create suitable reactions , knowing the mothers and daughters were going to do the veil dance. Your comment is truly appreciated! Thank you, Traci! 💙👍

Thank you for your response! 💙👍 Well, Antwerpen (and other cities) has been visited in 2010 and in 2015 by much larger giant puppets and even elephant puppets. So, yes, Little Amal is considered to be little, in comparison to those. 😉😀 Link to a video : kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIuf0bqKisqvYKQ.html
