    I have the newest Littermaid Litterbox, with the auto attachment from Litterworks. I have NEVER had the experiences you wrote about. I have had as many as half a dozen Kitty's using the Littermaid, and ALL of it's incarnations. I have been a customer for about 40 years. In all that time, I have to say that until I got the Auto attachment, I didn't think I would have THE best of both worlds, meaning the economy of a Littermaid, and the ease, sanitary and effectiveness of a Litter Robot. I do, and have since May of 2020. Every couple of days, I do a scoop out, or add litter; every two weeks I change the litter completely and spray the freshly cleaned interior with PAM to prevent sticking and it has all been working just fine. I have been using the recommended 'corn' litter, that I mix with 'clay' as I found that the mixture creates a better absorbency.

    I bought a 3rd Edition a week ago. I use the Litter Maid corn cob litter and it clumps well. I hear some say it is loud but since I have never used any other auto box I don't find it loud and it lets me know the cat used the box recently. I do keep the platform wiped down and empty the receptacle almost daily but reuse it. It is easy enough to pop the ramp off and empty and replace. I am thankful I don't have to scoop and having to empty each day is no issue for me. I really wanted one with a hood but find the high sides enough to keep the litter in. I also was already using the corn cob litter and this fit perfectly to what I was looking for. The litter does track a little but not near as bad as corn only based litter such as W.B., there is a difference. I also use a large cat litter mat and that keeps the tracking down as well. Also, it is a good lead in to seeing if my cat would use an auto box and not be scared. The price was cheap, was on sale for about $80. I am glad I bought it and I don't have issues except for some small bit get left occasionally, I just scoop it prior to emptying. That compared to scooping multiple times a day, I am a happy camper with this thing.

    I’ve had one for about 3 years and find it’s quite a mess to deal with. The motor failed once within the first year and they shipped me a new one at no charge. I reuse the trays because they are easier to empty rather than dumping the whole tray every time. I have 4 cats but only 2 of them use it. The others use traditional litter boxes. I have seen some homemade adapters to catch the litter into a larger container. I’ll post a link if I can find it. That is something I am definitely going to try because of the exact same problem you show with the litter piling up under the tray. I also use a mat to collect scatter. I’ll keep it until it dies again but won’t be buying another. Hope this helps! Thanks for your great reviews.

    I have used LitterMaid products ever since they came out. I currently have the multi-cat for my RagDolls, with the 'bag attachment. My RagDolls are 3 and 4 years old. I have NOT found the same issues that you did. Or maybe, having the daily 'check on i't is different for me. I spray the rake with PAM after a 'tidy', and the channel with PAM to keep it debris free. I have found that this greatly assists in the 'automatic' function. The bag is good for a week, and the box itself is completely changed/cleaned out bi-weekly. Keeping the sensors debris free, is beneficial, as well as vacuuming the channels. You are correct, the litter scatter is accurate.

    It’s not a bad litter box when compared to digging in a box by hand which is exhausting when you have as many cats as we do, and it also gets “most” waste out (not all) which still creates a cleaner space for the cat to use throughout the day. I have multiple cats and also some are smaller, so these work well for us. I love the Litter Robot as well, but it won’t work for our smaller kitties and it doesn’t fit in certain areas of our home, whereas the Litter-maid does. We use a combo of different ones. Oh and as you mentioned, using a plastic bag in the receptacle saves money! It works well. Btw your reviews are great! Just wanted to add another perspective!

    Oh, wow. So, my husband and I bought our first LitterMaid litterbox in _1998,_ the very first incarnation - freakily enough, I recently found the invoice for it! - and it was great. About six weeks ago we purchased a new "Third Edition" one like you're reviewing, and... yeah, ours doesn't sound at all like yours. The motion of the rake through the litter is herky-jerky, and it constantly jams and requires manual intervention. We finally got ahold of LitterMaid, though, and told them what we were experiencing, and they immediately shipped a new one out to us. I really hope the replacement unit we receive behaves more like yours-our defective one freaked our cat out so badly that we've had to invest in a Feliway Classic pheromone diffuser. We also had to change the litter we were using, because the clumps didn't set up fast enough to not stick to the rake. And, yup, we constantly have to redistribute the litter in the pan. Nope, the ramp has never been particularly effective. It's disappointing they've gimped what was once IMO a great product. =(( Oh, edited to add: The original LitterMaid had a 10-minute timer, but the manual for the Third Edition says it's now 20 minutes. (I have no idea what the Second Edition's timer was.)

    I agree with the review, but I would like to add this...I scoop the littermaid just like a normal litter box. It catches about 60%, and I do the rest. So if I run a hour or two late, the cat has somewhat cleaner box to use if I forget. And secondly, when I scoop, I just take the poo and put the stuff in littermaid bin. Lazy I guess. But I don't have to go looking for dustbin everytime. I empty the thing every two days max. No way it can last a week. Oh, another thing, I keep a small brush 🖌️ to clean the insides (rails) on which the scooper wheels runs.

    These used to be great when they had a metal rake. Now they are just like described in this video. They are more maintenance than a traditional hand scoop box. I unfortunately bought 2 new Mega Littermaid's not realizing they are now mostly plastic. They 100% rake the litter, leave behind most of it, then stop and get stuck in the position of dumping the litter. 100%, both of them. That means it is only good for one really bad collecting waste. The rakes do not go back to the back of the box again. I have tried brushing the sides where the wheels course, and even adding WD-40 to make it slick...but nothing works. This used to be a good product but somebody must have bought it to ride on its reputation and at the same time cheapen it, knowing it would not work....they had to know...I have 2 which operate with the same identical malfunction which renders them useless after the first rake...and that rake is not very good at all. They knew, and they sold it to us anyway, knowing it would rip us off of our money. Who ever owns this company enjoys conning people out of money. They probably buy companies who used to make quality products, ride on their good reputation, knowing there will be buyers like me who buy again, just once, because I remembered the good quality this company used to produce. Do not buy LITTERMAID. iT IS NOW A SCAM. THE OWNER NOW KNOWS IT IS A SCAM. IT WAS THEIR INTENTION.

    Wow what a mess indeed! These auto boxes are ridiculous in price and to small for the cats area! Never get how especially some ads exaggerate scooping lol, use a good xl litter box, I prefer hooded without the door though, get a good scoop like the litter lifter and alot of people don't put enough litter! need to use 3 inches minimum as they say, Scoop daily and top off with fresh as needed, and don't forget a good mat, end novel 😂 Thanks for this review though! I didn't know they worked this bad

    I had a litter maid years ago and it worked fantastic. I raved to everyone about how great the automatic litter box was. Then 2 years ago with a new cat I got a new litter maid and the thing is awful! Just as you said it doesn't rake well at all. Really it was a total waste of money. I tried giving to my mother for her cat, but she had the same problem. I finally gave up and have removed the rake in it and use it as a regular litter box that I clean daily. It's really disappointing.

    Great insights. I have heard from other reviewers that the new Litter Maid isn't quite as effective as older models. If you're up for the investment, you might consider the Litter Robot. We recently reviewed it and I've found that it's significantly more consistent and effective than the Litter Maid, essentially delivering on all of the Litter Maid's broken promises.

    All About Cats The old littermaids were tanks. Then the quality kept declining. Don’t ever get the one with the metal rake. I never+er had so. I have problems until I got the metal rake. It would hang up and break the plastic ratchet that moved it. I replaced 3 rakes. Went back to a LM with plastic rake. But they have a lot of problems. Most often the rake hangs up on larger clumps and the unit just stops. My litter robot has had some annoying problems, but we’re an easy fix after watching how to vids on KZread.

    Bought tbis last year. 2 broken litter maid. Not built for big cats. The rack mechanism broke on my 2nd litter maid because my fat cat was blocking it.

    Can i use pretty litter in this ?

  • @AllAboutCatsYT

    @AllAboutCatsYT

    3 жыл бұрын

    You certainly could! The color changing/health monitoring features of the Pretty Litter would be disrupted by routine raking, but you'd also get the benefit of less clumped-up litter, so it's a mixed bag.
