    legato is easy, tremolo is easy, but changing strings while doing tremolo, especially when doing odd number of strokes per string... that's where shit gets really hard. at least for me

  • @Jackwoodguitar

    @Jackwoodguitar

    Ай бұрын

    That's part of the point of this exercise Once you get this down just change the amount of notes per string make patterns using 5's & 7's etc You could also mix up different groupings on different strins!

    I don’t think ANY guitarist struggles to play on a single string fast (of that is their goal) . It’s practical picking, as in switching strings when playing and not just one string. I guess this may help someone who just grabbed a guitar so I can’t be too critical

    Don't let it overwhelm you at all bro. Most Metallica you can manage with just 2 fingers. I'm positive if you were to just see what they are doing you will see how easy it really is. I’m curious what song(s) you’re specifically looking to learn. Knowing Metallica there are probably a handful of songs very close in riff style that are a bit easier than what you’re having struggles with that would help you ease the transition a little more. They utilize a lot of variations of the same structural ideas and there’s no shame in mastering something “easier” to anchor your confidence down.

    Why is it that no matter how much I practice, no matter how hard (or how little) I try, I always feel like the pick gets caught on the string inevitably throwing off the flow? I can pick a handful of notes cleanly and quickly but then it's like some microscopic jagged edge of the pick or something just gets hung in a very subtle way and the pickstroke is thrown all off which ruins the run. I've never ever been able to get over this and I've been playing for many many years. I get a little better sometimes but I never seem to conquer this one specific aspect and it always discourages me into getting burnt out because I see people like this just glide through the strings like butter. I guess my pickstrokes are just ultimately uneven and I don't know how to make them perfectly even and silky smooth. Some people say to slow down but holy shit have I spent a whole lot of time playing slowly. I feel like I'm way way beyond the stage of needing to play slowly.

    Great lesson but I'm a bit confused. I'm not sure I see the difference between B and C section. Seem too similar to grasp. Would you mind providing a bit more context. Also, any tips on picking hand execution?

    B is pick 1 legato 2 C is pick all 3 notes And just make sure it’s not stiff & from the elbow Allow for plenty of pick slanting And don’t be afraid to go for it 🔥

    @aoutii Shredding involves more than just clicking off a bunch of triplets and legato runs. Not one other technique was mentioned. Nothing about feel was mentioned Nothing about intent. Nothing about rhythm in your shred. I mean.. shredding is way more complex than just doing this...

    So B & C to me sound exactly the same. But supposed to just for picking practice on the C? Sorry, prolly dumb question. I'm a rhythm guitar player (obviously lol)

    This is a copy and paste but should clear it up So B is legato which in the case means we're picking the first note (5th fret.) & Hammering onto the new two notes In C you pick every note out of the 5 7 8 x4 Repeate this through the scale & strings But yeah it's just the picking The idea is that you work on fast hand sync around the fretboard
