I don’t think ANY guitarist struggles to play on a single string fast (of that is their goal) . It’s practical picking, as in switching strings when playing and not just one string. I guess this may help someone who just grabbed a guitar so I can’t be too critical

I have a maybe dumb question but how do you make the amp sound like that when doing the fast picking? mine just sounds like a super grainy guitar I’m not getting the metal sound
@Jackwoodguitar
15 күн бұрын
A lot of the tone comes from how I’m picking A lot of muting is happening If you watch my hand basically never leaves a string unattended Then comes picking with an angle I just use a 5150 preset, Mesa cab emulation & a drive infront with fairly low gain overall

I just want to play metallica but the chords overwhelm me ;-; it's not even the speed, 4 years of doing something similar and I can't muster the courage to learn a song
@YOUCANTDOTHATONTELEVISION
Ай бұрын
Don't let it overwhelm you at all bro. Most Metallica you can manage with just 2 fingers. I'm positive if you were to just see what they are doing you will see how easy it really is. Websites like songsterr make it easy to play along to a track and see the guitar tab. You can do it bro. Just have fun
@Jackwoodguitar
Ай бұрын
What song do you mean? They tend to use a ton of power chords
@ronsin9490
Ай бұрын
I’m curious what song(s) you’re specifically looking to learn. Knowing Metallica there are probably a handful of songs very close in riff style that are a bit easier than what you’re having struggles with that would help you ease the transition a little more. They utilize a lot of variations of the same structural ideas and there’s no shame in mastering something “easier” to anchor your confidence down.

Why is it that no matter how much I practice, no matter how hard (or how little) I try, I always feel like the pick gets caught on the string inevitably throwing off the flow? I can pick a handful of notes cleanly and quickly but then it's like some microscopic jagged edge of the pick or something just gets hung in a very subtle way and the pickstroke is thrown all off which ruins the run. I've never ever been able to get over this and I've been playing for many many years. I get a little better sometimes but I never seem to conquer this one specific aspect and it always discourages me into getting burnt out because I see people like this just glide through the strings like butter. I guess my pickstrokes are just ultimately uneven and I don't know how to make them perfectly even and silky smooth. Some people say to slow down but holy shit have I spent a whole lot of time playing slowly. I feel like I'm way way beyond the stage of needing to play slowly.

@@Jackwoodguitar Great video lesson! Thanks a lot! That guitar caught my eye at once! I figured, it's an Ibanez w/ the 80s Roadstar II body shape, ebony fingerboard w/ binding, is it set-neck? I love the carved top! Couldn't find anything close on Google...But maybe I was wrong all along assuming it's an Ibanez. Please reveal!

Love to hear that mate! I'm going to be posting on here. whole load more now So prepare to learn!
I don’t think ANY guitarist struggles to play on a single string fast (of that is their goal) . It’s practical picking, as in switching strings when playing and not just one string. I guess this may help someone who just grabbed a guitar so I can’t be too critical
What's the brand/model of your guitar? looks nice really
Good movement to focus on as much playing requires a partial index bar, great strength training.
i struggle when switching hand positions. Anytime i have to go up or down the neck is when i begin to fall apart
AWESOME VIDEO AND TECHNIQUE. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A VIDEO THAT HELPS WITH PICKING AN ABOVE STRING BETWEEN RIFFING. AS I LAY DYING HAS A LOT OF SONGS LIKE THIS. I.E.: A CHUG ON THE TOP STRING BETWEEN RIFFS ON THE 5TH OR 4TH STRING. CONFINED, DARKEST NIGHTS (VERSES), AUGUST BURNS RED HAS PLENTY OF SONGS LIKE THIS AS WELL.
Clean playing!!

Arguably more difficult but it really is dependant on the person, but you could do an economy picking type thing where you do legato while sweep picking to transition between strings

Just make sure your hand isn't all scrunched up & it will change, but just take this ABAC idea and move it around to new areas
Wow. No one has ever explained it like this. I think I'm now mind blown at how simple he made this seem. Other people are like (demonstration) "you do that". And I'm like "What?! How?! You didn't explain shit!" I'll have to give this a rewatch after work.

I have a maybe dumb question but how do you make the amp sound like that when doing the fast picking? mine just sounds like a super grainy guitar I’m not getting the metal sound
@Jackwoodguitar
@YOUCANTDOTHATONTELEVISION
@Jackwoodguitar

What song do you mean? They tend to use a ton of power chords
@ronsin9490
I cant seem to get a matching sound on my guitar.. Trying to just ace the first part (A) first but can you tell me amp tuning and what fret?
Whats C part again?😂 legato and then alt picking?

@@Jackwoodguitar in a way, sure
Nice lesson

@Jackwoodguitar

This is a copy and paste but should clear it up So B is legato which in the case means we're picking the first note (5th fret.) & Hammering onto the new two notes In C you pick every note out of the 5 7 8 x4 Repeate this through the scale & strings But yeah it's just the picking The idea is that you work on fast hand sync around the fretboard
Already been shredding there brother
