Literally EVERYTHING Needed to Be Cleaned and Check Again to Get the CT70 Running

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Old bike's can hide a lot of stuff! Not only did the kick back cause myself pain and annoyance, the Honda Trail 70's fuel system, from the gas tank all the way down to the carb, needed even more of a cleaning to remove all of the gunk and rust. But we finally got everything cleared out and even check the engine to put the valves in clearance and adjusted the timing to help ease the pain in my ankle. While we didn't solve it, here's how to kick start a lifan 140cc properly to avoid kickback.

I've done a bunch of these little vintage Honda tanks, and I thought I'd share what works best for me. Remove the petcock and plug the hole with a rubber plug or cork. Pour a handful or two of clean, 3/4-inch drain rock gravel into the tank. Wrap the tank in an old quilt or sleeping bag and bundle it together with bungee cords. Put it in the dryer (no heat) to tumble for 10 minutes. You'd be amazed how well the gravel scrubs off most of the rust, much better than nuts and bolts. Next, wash out the rust from the tank and fill the tank completely with a strong solution of citric acid (used in cooking, available from Amazon) and tap water. Agitate the tank every 15 minutes or so, and keep an eye on it. You don't want the acid to eat through the tank, just etch off the rust. Since it's just citric acid, you can pour the rusty solution down the drain slowly with a copious amount of water. Run a hair dryer into the tank to evaporate the water out and spray it with WD-40 to keep it from flash rusting. I've saved tanks that looked absolutely terrible with this method.

This is going to sound crazy. Try using Coca-Cola and bolts in the gas tank. Real coke, not diet etc. Let ot sit for 2 days. Then shake the devil out of it. The acid in the coke will greatly help getting that debri out. Great job as always! Its good to see it running proper after alk that work.

I heard people put in vinegar, but coke sounds plausible too! Thankfully it's been running just fine ever since, but I'll keep this in mind if it needs just a bit more elbow grease!
