Listening To God's Will

Ойын-сауық

Brother Malachy isn’t messing around when it comes to listening to God’s will. He puts his entire conversion story on the table and lays it out for all to see, to show his viewers how-if you sincerely give your whole life to God-he does not disappoint.
Brother Malachy kept nothing for himself. Even after being offered a free ride for an undergraduate and graduate degree in literature at the University of Georgia, and having the chance to have his best friend as his roommate, he still felt like he hadn’t found God’s will. He still felt like God was calling him to something more. He was asking God what he wanted, but he wasn’t listening.
Brother Malachy gave up the full scholarship offer, and took some months off to discern. Eventually he found himself entering the brotherhood of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. Learn his full story, including many more interesting details, in this video.
Do you feel like God is calling you to something greater? If so, stop messing around and take your discernment seriously. God probably has something prepared for you that is better than anything you even dared to imagine.

    Ok y'all, the timing of this video is WILD. I've been praying really hard lately to know God's will in my life, and just on Monday I had almost the EXACT SAME experience in Adoration that Brother Malachy described - me begging Jesus to let me know His will, why can I not figure out Your will, etc., and He said to me very clearly, "It's because you're not listening." Hearing about the struggle that might come next almost makes me want to give up entirely, but I know I just have to lean in and trust the Lord, because He has great things planned. Thank you for this video!!

    Just please hang in there. Hang hard. I got into habit of literarily screaming Jesus in my head. Rosary too. If you can 20 decades. We can still have sinful thoughts but sacraments help. At least me. Started daily mass so go to point of you can't do that or you won't be able to receive tomorrow. Lean in real real tight. Scream His holy name. Gradually the sin becomes less attractive n another vid talked about eating right n avoiding getting into an unhappy state. Conciously look for good things that give you joy n run to them. Silly things like painting your nails or going to look at flowers. One hail Mary said for you

    I used to have the same problem(and sometimes still do) but I found out that one of the things that really affected my thoughts were the things that I put around myself. For example, listening to secular music, or watching movies or tv shows and even videos, that triggered those thoughts in my mind. When I was able to identify these triggers and cut it out of my life, the thoughts stopped coming for the most part, and when it does come there is nothing to fuel it. It still gets hard, but whenever they come I just sing a song about God or think about something different and it goes away. Hope this helps and stay strong because His grace is sufficient for us. 😊👍🏾

  • @GuadalupePicasso

    @GuadalupePicasso

    Also, don’t so much pray for God to remove these bad thoughts; instead, pray for God to teach you how to respond to them in a way that is holy and pleasing to Him. Our life on earth, no matter how holy we may strive to be, is one of struggle, as we wrestle with the “already but not yet” of our salvation. The best advice that I can offer is to keep surrendering those sinful thoughts, mindsets, and attitudes to God, each moment that they come. Don’t relent, don’t stop. When they come, just pray something simple like, “Jesus, I surrender these sinful thoughts to you”, and even, eventually, continue that conversation with Him. God is truly everywhere present and filling all things. Prayer, in its most simple form, is “practicing the presence of God”, to be intentionally cognizant of His presence. You are His beloved child!

So I started to search God and would grab any opportunity to go Adoration. Sometimes I would leave the adoration with tears and sometimes with so much joy. Now as I enter into my final year, deep down in my heart, I know that God is telling me that this is my vocation. Turning 19 this year ;)

I don't like to be silent with my thoughts because I have intrusive ones at times (OCD/anxiety) and because I am afraid God will tell me to give up something I really want :( I reckon Jesus would totally tell me I'm not listening! I guess if it's from God it will line up with His character (something I've also had skewed perceptions about!) and Biblical principles, and also with your giftings/interests to some degree? Maybe you can pray that God will make it repeatedly and abundantly clear, that He will keep the enemy at bay as you try to discern, and that He may use trustworthy people to confirm His will?? Praying for you (and myself!) in this!

    Making a holy hour is easy when you do a rosary, some meditation or special prayers at hand. But try going in the Adoration Chapel without all these “helps” and take in the silence and thoughts and simply listen and stop your petitions and praying. Just be there with God. Now that’s difficult. But I bet, that hour would be the most gratifying.

    M de Lima -- focus on your children. It's your time NOW. To be a mother. Later, when they are on their own, then ask again. This doesn't mean you can't help others through prayer and practical assistance as you're able. Your little ones can see this and it becomes part of their lives to help others. This advice from Brother Malachy is mainly for people who haven't already stepped into a vocation of marriage, parenting, or religious life. The rest of us (I'm a grandmother) can find benefit to it, but in a different way. There's always something ahead, as long as you're alive it means God has a purpose, but people often forget that the day-to-day is just as important for doing God's will. The best advice I ever received when I had my firstborn was, "Live every moment, remember it and treasure it. It goes by faster than you can imagine. I wish I could go back and enjoy mine when they were little." I took that advice, and I hope you will, too. Every moment, God is giving you two little ones! When you look on them tenderly, it is not as tenderly as the Father looks on you. Look at the beautiful little treasures He has given you!

    Bill, Thanks for the feedback, you are right about God speaking in different ways, and that there is a pain in the yes sometimes (think about Jesus in the garden of Gesthsemene - "if this cup can pass, please let it, but not my will Father, but yours be done..."). Just remember though that prayer itself is actually work! It is ridiculously hard in my own experience to remain faithful day in and day out to personal prayer and silence. From my experience as well, the more I have become accustomed to the voice of God in prayer (through mediation on Scripture, Rosary, etc), the more I have been able to see God at work in the activities of my day, the "work" that is visible. I pray that the voice of the Father is heard in the stillness and the events of your daily life. God bless, Br. MJ

    Cheex Don't get too caught up with these stories. It is very important to try and figure out for yourself what you need to do. These guys are outlining how they self reflected and figured out what life path was best for them through thinking and praying and meditating and taking to family friends and mentors. Try not be confused by how abstract he makes it all.

    Thank you. It’s been hard and it continues to get even harder because I think I am being called to religious life. I’m going to go into a discernment retreat with a loving group of Spanish nuns. I’m scared and heartbroken because my heart somehow was hoping God would allowed me to stay with my amazing boyfriend. We’ve been together for 4 years and he’s been everything a girl could ever ask for. He’s supported my love for God, he’s accepted everything I am with so much love and patience. Everyone would think we would get married and so did I. But I’m wrestling with my inner peace and my spiritual director suggested to discern religious life before considering marrying him. Pray for me because I love this man to pieces and it’s really taken everything in me to ask God for His will because I knew deep inside it could mean being away from my boyfriend. I want to love God and do what He created for me. It’s just scary because that could mean not being with my lover and best friend. I’m already crying by just writing this. This is also really tough for my boyfriend because he’s always desired a future with me and even though he has accepted my decision to discern religious life with so much love and understanding, I know it still breaks his heart. I love him so much please pray for us, please pray for us

    Alondra, Christ peace to you sister! Thank you for your sincerity and honesty about this real struggle to be open to God's plan for your life. Although I chose not to speak about it in the video, there was likewise in my own life someone whom I loved deeply and thought I would marry that God asked me to surrender to Him. All I can tell you is that in the end God will honor your freedom, but He also made your heart. So whatever he asks of you, it is not to take something away, but to give the greatest gift your heart could know in this life. You were made for a definite purpose, God had dreams in His heart when you were created, ask Him what that dream is, and if it is scary to be open and say, tell your Heavenly Father, and ask Our Lady for the courage to trust her Son Jesus. They know you and want to lead you into the freedom and fullness of life you were created for. If that life is meant to include this man, then God will show you that. I remember coming to a place where I realized that I loved this girl, and yet knew that God was asking me to let her go. What i realized was that if I truly loved her, and wanted the best for her, then the best and most loving thing I could do was to obey God's call and trust that He had someone else for her - which he did. Not easy, I know, but real love always means a real death to ourselves for the good of the other. The greatest gift of love we can make to our family, friends, the world, is to become a saint! Which simply means to do the will of the Father. May Our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph obtain for you the clarity of discernment to know God's will and the courage to say "Hagase en mi segun to palabra!"
