When I was 15 my first boyfriend had this album and turned me on to Zappa. We stayed in touch our whole lives and he passed away last year. This so reminds me of him and the great times we had in the late 60’s early 70’s. We even saw him live. Thanks for the wonderful memories.

I first heard this in 1970. I loved it but never pursued Zappa's music until 1993. I have spent almost thirty years obsessing about his music and am a die-hard fan. He is always circling back into my listening over any given month. I know of no other artist who quite affects me like Zappa. Hot Rats is a wonderful place to start. I would also recommend 200 Motels (very different) Joe's Garage, Waka Jawaka. His orchestral work is also phenomenal; Yellow Shark was where I reconnected with him, Lumpy Gravy was were it started though! The original Mother's albums are stunning too! His synclavier music, although not everyones bag, is quite amazing. Civilisation Phase III is remarkable. You WILL become completely in awe of his genius and try to buy everything!

I bought this album in the Spring of 1970. Along with some friends we dropped some acid and listened together for the first time. We ended up spending the night in a park and the grass was reddish pink. You don't forget those nights. I see it was pointed out to you that Captain Beefheart is featured on Willie the Pimp. I heard Troutmask Replica for the first time at the end of the Summer of 1970 with some pals just after a friend arrived to tell us of the death of Jimi Hendrix. We were tripping that night too. Another night you don't forget. It was a baptism of fire for me at the time and I grew to love Beefheart. You should check out Safe as Milk and something like the Spotlight Kid for a gentle introduction

I was supposed to go to Woodstock, but had a supplementary exam to write the Friday morning it began. By the time I got back from the exam, all highways leading to the festival locale were blocked, making any prospect of hitching impossible. My consolation prize was that Frank and the Mothers were playing 5 free concerts the same weekend in my city. I attended each one and had the pleasure of interviewing Frank between two of them, and meeting several of the band-members. The day after the last show, Frank broke up the band because, in his words, "people wouldn't know good music if it bit them on the ass". From brief comments made by band-members, it had apparently been a rough tour. Hot Rats came out about 2 months later. When I spoke with him, Frank told me that he was always working on arrangements, and whether he was on the bus or in the hotel, he always had a bunch of HB pencils, a pad of music paper, and a portable electric pencil sharpener.

A great Zappa album. Peaches en Regalia is one of my favorite Zappa songs. Your video editing skills are moving toward a level of professionalism. Multiple views work great! The first glow effect on that particular section of the song looked funny and worked well. But I immediately started to follow where this is going, because the effects can be a box of Pandor in the hands of unaware, if you follow my drift. But yeah, you made it. The using of visual effects stayed between the borders of good taste. Though there were moments of walking on the edge. Good work, Jim! Definitely added something, some visual attraction to your video, thou your content has always been perfect.

That was my 1st album by them, it was a "blind purchase" at a local Warehouse Record Store when they started selling used CD's. It was a HUGE surprise how great it was, as I searched for anything Prog Metal, and it was all over the place as far as moods, complexities and melodies. I became a huge fan. I guess they are FINALLY going to work on the new album next year? The vocalist "Buddy Lackey" (aka Devon Graves) also fronts the, sort of, Dark Prog Metal band, "Dead Soul Tribe", and the spooky horror band "Shadow Theory". Both worth checking out Jim. I believe I sent and linked this playlist under one of your videos featuring DST in it: kzread.info/head/PL2DU3TBNutEcnr_Fjq-ZMNeALABnPjz_S And the next one with a Psychotic Waltz track: kzread.info=PL2DU3TBNutEdwcerQSEcG8MU8qp1bxkqu ). I'm likely to edit this post a number of times since this is one of my all time favorite records. First, this review gets an automatic like from me, even before listening to it!!! Second, Hot Rats is largely known the be the fist LP that fused jazz and rock. Many followed Franks lead, which is a common theme in his career. Third, I've been requesting Peaches En Regalia on numerous reactors' pages for two years easily - Jim you're the first to react that I know of. Thank you!

Wow! Ok, thanks for the seal of approval, I really enjoyed this record, and still four or five days later, I can't get it out of my head. Brilliant! Think I'm going to have a long and pleasant relationship with Mr Zappa's music 😁👍🏻

I've been listening for decades and I still find stuff I haven't heard before. If there's such a thing as too prolific - Frank was that.

The Strat that FZ used on this album is none other than the one that Jimi Hendrix burned and smashed at the Monterey Pop Festival in that iconic performance. Per his son, Dweezil (a monster player himself, and who also has the guitar) explained that a crew member gathered the broken remains after the show and gave them to Frank because he thought it would look cool hanging on the wall in his studio, but instead, he decided to rebuild it and use it. Now Dweezil plays it when he plays his fathers music on tour with his own incredible band...which often times includes former members of the original Mothers of Invention. Dweezil usually plays the SG you see Frank playing in footage, like Inca Roads, etc, but he breaks out the Strat from time to time. If i am wrong on a point or two, someone please correct me, but this was from Dweezil in an interview.

Even though it’s a bit of a mission, I think Zappa is an artist where a chronological studio album listen through has merit. It’s not all good, but it is always evolving.

The first time I heard Willie The Pimp was at a friend's older brother's house. I already knew a little about Zappa, having been introduced to the Flo & Eddie-era Mothers maybe a year earlier by my older brother's friend. Anyway, the first time I heard Willie, a fire engine was going by outside with the siren blaring and it actually fit nicely with the music. Great memory of a first listen to a great tune.

Funny, how different this mix is in comparison to the cd. It's much more extreme. Others don't, but I think, I like both. It all started with Hot Rats.

Don't know if you've done this Jim. Perhaps you can. You should listen to the Frank Zappa record Shut Up N Play Your Guitar. It's kind of like the freeform jam in Willie The Pimp only much much better. It's a box set. But you could at least spin the first LP. Jams like Five, Five, Five, and Shut Up N Play Your Guitar definitely get one up on Willie The Pimp. Don't get me wrong though, Willie's a classic!

i absolutely adore 50% of Zappa's material. The other 45% I either like or love. And 5% my brain doesn't understand because I'm a peasant. - - - new challenge for you. Listen to Disco Volante by MrBungle - you'll need to edit parts for your video. It would be entertaining for you and many others. Or on the other end of the spectrum. Now you'll need to listen to Willie the Pimp on the Filmore album. But you have to do Mr. Green Genes. Frank always utilized his bass. Crank the bass up a bit on his music. Thanks. Just a bit.

For anyone who is already into Jazz, The Grand Wazoo off the same album is a great entree into Zappa. For someone simply wishing to stand in awe of Zappa's guitar mastery -- without any of his less-accessible musical detours -- then a listen to the all-instrumental Trance-Fusion is in order. That may sound boring. It's not. Enjoying your reactions. New sub.
