Really love the band and the video! I think you are right that they have similarities with Mastodon, being both sludge metal bands from Atlanta. However, I think Mastodon’s music is moving towards their southern sludge/rock roots while Baronnes is heavily influenced by folk/country

Here it is! I was hoping you would check this album out. Such a great album, but i have difficulties ranking it in Baroness' discography as all their albums are great in their own ways.

I admit I gave this album a preliminary listen when I saw you had acquired it. I think this might be my favorite from Baroness yet. That back cover reminds me of something Ernie Chan might have drawn for the Conan comic ages ago. 😁

Definitely a break from the colour themes as John has stated this in interviews. As a HUGE fan of theirs I actually found this album the most difficult to get into, but it's got some really cool songs on it and an eerie feel - but excited to see your take!

Stone is a colour, Jim (sorta) so I think they're continuing with the theme. Pretty good stuff though not my usual type of music.

You're right, they are a very unique sounding and feeling band. There's definitely some Mastodon in there, but the way they weave a country/folk feel into their music is just fantastic.

Mmmm thst 1st riff kicking in is officially my introduction to this band Jim.... And im super impressed. On my wishlist. Something like Beck meets Dream Theatre meets Haken meets Elder meets Thin Lizzy in their sound as that 1st song develops......

ahh enjoy. I think BLUE is generally considered their best record. vocals are heavier - a bit doomier. he's gotten more melodic as the band has progressed

I've known some Baroness before, but I'm very picky with singers, that might be the main reason, why I haven't bought an album yet. Second coincidence of the day : the second song starts, I'm thinking about my comment ... want to write, the riffing and drumming remind me of Mastodon .. and you say they sound like Mastodon 🤣🤣🤘 Well, let's listen to part 2 and 3 for a final judgement

Good evening Jim, I have never heard of them before but I’m used to that. 1st song or is it second. The lyrics are repeating themselves a lot. A bit more effort on that would be nice. Musically……mmmm….. Some parts are excellent but other parts are, again, not very fanciful. 3rd? song. No, not for me, except the little guitar solo which is good. I don’t like the singing.
