@@prep0763 I don't think he mentioned the rythms being so hard for him, after all there are plenty of of intricate songs they made before this and i would argue they werent even as melodic; per his video interview he had to learn a new technique for the bass peddles for this song, he realized he needed to just barely ride the peddles with his toes/end of his foot, and make each hit lighter to make it happen

Yup they almost had to cut this song from the album because his herniated disk fucked his timing and he had to relearn using his right leg. Its nuts. So I'm a drummer going on 20 years now. I've studied all od the greats! Niel Peart undoubtedly was a revolutionary drummer and deserves the utmost respect for bringing drumming to where it is today!! However, there are many drummers that outclass him in just about every way, musicality, creativity, mastery of theory, execution and speed. Honor the greats, but don't think that new blood can't match up!! Love your content, keep it up!! In this video specifically you're witnessing one of the greatest drummijg feats of theory mastery and execution. This guy had to basically relearn how to play the drums to be able to play this song.

He was actually not happy with this particular performance. He was dealing with an injury. This deserves a comment in the main thread.
Of all the Bleed reactions, I like yours best. Well analysed and finally someone who gives the guitarists a break also. Their doing insane timing work too. Love man
Double bass players understand that's this beat is so much more difficult than people know. The quick doubles and triples are insane.
This song is actually about what it would be like to have an aneurysm! Every member of this band is extremely talented but what makes the drummer so impressive in this song is his stamina and his footwork. To be able to offset poly rhythms with either foot while maintaining a beat on the hands is just not easy even for a pro. Like you said its like he has five brains. Hes a living breathing metronome. A lot of what happens is easy to be overlooked since the "hertas" hes doing with his feet follow through the whole song but they are slightly different segment to segment. I have a few musician friends and I show them this and tell them to count out the time and they sit there scratching their heads lol But since you enjoyed this, check out clockwork drum cam, its a bit more flashy with the hand work. Also i'll throw in another drummer since you're on a drum train. His name is matt garstka he plays for animals as leaders and is an extremely accomplished drummer. He won multiple drumming competitions in his youth and went to berklee for drumming. Check out his ectogenesis or tooth and claw drum play through.

""Put the brakes on it" lol. He sure did and mind you these dudes are like 50plus man. Killing it for over 30 years. Great reaction man!!👍👍
A few interesting facts: The song took nearly six months to learn to perform after being written. Thomas suffered a herniated disc which causes his right leg to have a neuromuscular delay. They normally play this song near the end of the over one hour long set. Contrary to whatever time signature you think you counted out for this song, it's written in 4/4 time.
Again, Mgła’s Exercises in Futility V, the live performance. I show this video to as many of my drummer buddies as possible and it straight blows people’s minds.

Even better. He already has his own hands. And ya know, a band that doesn't take 13 years to release an album that's 60% aimless jamming.
Neil Peart plays the flashy happy top drums and did his magic that way. Thomas Haake gets in the dirty places where most demons won’t dare go. He is the heart, the metronome and the composer for Meshuggah. They just have to try and keep up with the old man.
