Listen to this newly invented instrument

Музыка

The Venova is a new instrument designed by Yamaha. It’s a combination of a saxophone and a recorder.
The Venova still retains some of the traditional aspects of its predecessors like the reed mouthpiece and recorder fingering. But the body is significantly shorter with a unique branched pipe structure.
Watch our video to see how Venova music sounds.

I have one of these. It's basically impossible to play in tune in any key but C (although you can wrangle a barely passable Bb out of it sometimes), and the low notes are somewhat difficult to sound. An actual soprano saxophone is much easier to play. The Venova is a fun toy, but for the price, I would hope it would be fully chromatic, like a $5 recorder is. I'm not a hater. If you have the money and don't mind playing only in C, it's kinda cool. Fun sound.

@@matjamesmusic there is also an alto Venova in F, and I have the impression it is not as difficult to play chromatic notes as on the soprano because of the more extensive key work.

If you haven't already done so, try removing the little black hole constrictor on the fifth hole, then use the Baroque fork fingerings. The Venova as supplied uses German recorder fingering (courtesy of that little black doohickey), which was specifically designed to make C simple at the expense of more distant keys. I suspect, however, that the instrument was really designed around Baroque fingering.

@@nicholaslee4669 perhaps, i also think it's mostly because it's exceptionally simple as a design. you can, with no measurements (as the earliest instruments were made) take a fruit or a bone and put a long hole in it, a whistle (or easier, a sax mouthpiece) ansd holes for fingers congrats, you've just made an instrument! now you can jusy copy what everyone else has done for hundreds of years for finger placement and bam, new 3+3 woodwind. there are a gajillion of flutes with this almost exact design too, although they typically actually serve a purpose in their culture it is also interesting to note that a LOT of instruments died out or were unimportant. adolphe sax, responsible for huge innovations in the woodwind family, had a shit ton of useless, trash instrument inventions (like the saxophone- take that, sax players!)
