Males are slightly larger than females. In general, fully grown male lions weigh in at around 420 pounds, according to Animal Diversity Web of the University of Michigan. So a normal injury could make her weaker to any animal she’s up against

    What a mother! Brave, protective and prepared to do what she needs to in order to protect her young. When I was a child, I was very afraid of "monsters" under the bed, around doors and stuff while I slept. So I'd go into my mum's bed sometimes to sleep. When I was there, my mum made me feel so safe that nothing could ever hurt me. No monsters would dare challenge my mum. That's the power mums have and when Honey was prepared to risk her life for her beautiful babies, it shows her immense love and fierce devotion to her young.

    The point is she could have hurt her. In a serious fight, the cheetah will get the worst of it for sure, but I think for the lioness, alone as she was, it's not worth it to risk getting a bad wound that could even get infected just to kill a "competitor", more so when cheetah and lions go after different prey normally so it's not even a serious competitor as a hyena might be. So I think it's more about the whole risks than who would kill who. The bottom line is: for this cheetah their cubs were worth dying for, but for the lioness killing them was not worth risking an injury.

  • @Jackysutarrodetierra

    @Jackysutarrodetierra

    4 жыл бұрын

    @NonyaBusiness! In a tropical weather without any medical care even a minor wound is a life threat. Many big animals have died from an infected cut on the paw, specially social animals like lionesses, who need to keep up with the pride. Like I said, the cheetah is not a really serious threat, but the chance of getting a paw (for example) bitten, then infected, and die from that is there and it is not unimaginable.

  • @Joel57able

    @Joel57able

    @NonyaBusiness! Both are way above . Even the heaviest cheetahs probably weigh 60 kgs. Lionesses weigh around 100-120kgs. Some exceptionally large ones can weigh up to 150 but that's rare.

    @lucky strike but the point is the cheetah wasn't sprinting, she was confronting her and even chasing her. It's clear that they would have gotten into a fight, even if it was a 5 second fight and then the cheetah trying to scape. Besides, lions do chase down cheetahs, even when they are impossible for them to catch when they are healthy and at a safe distance, there are tons of videos of that behavior online

    Mine too. Love Cheetahs. Honey is something special when facing predators, to protect her cubs. I have seen her face off with Lions, Hyena's, Lionesses and other male Cheetahs. Ironically when the male Cheetahs had her cubs cornered an Elephant showed up and ran to the male Cheetahs off and never approached the cubs. A Cheetah, is no threat to an Elephant, even a baby, so in a display of compassion the Elephant protects the baby Cheetahs.

    Does it mean female cheetahs r more brave than female leopards? I have never seen leopards doing this lions or even hyenas. I have mostly seen leopards hiding their cubs on trees or rocks but never fighting or chasing off hyenas or even wild dogs while cheetahs often chase hyenas away to protect cubs.

    Lions are intelligent animals and good communication to each other, if you see many lions videos you will get the impression they have feelings, What am I trying to say the Lioness probably felt for her motherhood and the way the Cheetah communicate with the Cub the left her alone willingly.

    Yeah. I noticed that too. I also seen another video where a mother lion was grieving the loss of a cub. She had to leave the cub that was injured when she was away and she saved the cub but couldn’t help it after so she painfully had to walk away from the cub and let it die but she stayed at a distance with a very sad look on her face and grieving extremely hard from having to make the decision to let her cub die in such a horrible, painful manner. Nature does really have interesting moments such as this and that is only what we can capture and could be something that isn’t too uncommon in the wild
