Forgetting stats; CR7 has done it it 3 different countries and LED his international team (which was weaker than Messi’s) to a big tournament win. Messi has stayed safe at one club and they are now suffering since the other world class players retired (Xavi, Iniesta etc) and Messi can’t lead them the way CR7 leads his teams. Stats are fun and can be manipulated. Messi was born with more of a ‘gift’ but through hard work CR7 is quicker, stronger, has a better shot, is a better leader of his team and has a greater desire. I wish I had Messi’s talent but I’d want CR7 on my team as I’d have more chance of winning!

It doesn’t make much sense to compare Messi and Ronaldo because scoring goals is the only thing where Ronaldo can compete with Messi, but he’s not even close in all the other aspects of Messi’s game. Ronaldo is one of the greatest finishers of all time and young players can learn a get deal from him in terms of his hard work and determination. Messi on the other hand is simply the best footballer of all time and a one of a kind. The two of them are not really wholly comparable. Messi scores as many goals as he does and tops the assists. He's the better all round player for a team. Messi has 71 in 142 for Argentina. Exactly 1 in 2. That's a great ratio plus 42 assists. Ronaldo has 102 goals and 30 assist in 170 caps. Meaning they both have a G/A every 102 minutes... Messi getting Argentina to the WC final was a much bigger achievement than Ronaldo winning the euros...if they hadn't changed the rules and put best 3rd place teams through they wouldn't have made it out of the group stages. Ronaldo is the ultimate goal scorer. Messi is the ultimate player.
