    You actually forgot the only thing that makes InterMiami a very powerful team currently. Messi is not just quality and character - nobody seems to realize that Messi is a team coach as well. Sure Tata Martino is the actual coach, but I’m sure Messi is putting out tactics as well just as much as he’s playing. That’s why they’re so dangerous

    The biggest change from Inter Miami is the change in how the players around him play. Messi, Alba & Busquets can only do so much. You can tell their addition to the team made a positive impact on the others. Since they're veteran players im sure they imparted some wisdom to help the Inter Miami players adjust to the way they like to play or vice versa. The way they've been playing it feels like they adjusted to Messi, Alba & Busquets so that they can flourish (runs to make, managing space, etc).

But Messi is Messi, but let's pretend we want to compare two competitive teams at their respective league, without entering to judge the level of the league. Then ask yourself this question: Do you prefer a 36+ player that runs all the game and can only score penalties, send free kicks right to the moon, rarely make any dribbling or hardly ever make anything out of the ordinary? Incredible the disrespect towards the game. I dont mind some jokes or sticks toward the situation. But honestly the Craig should honestly get a hold of himself. I doubt he was as fit when he was 36 years, of course MLs dont have caliber of players of Messi, Alba, Busquets, but they are older too. And Nashville literally could have won that game, just like Dallas. They shut down the center in a good way so it was hard to get passes to Messi or get the ball in front through the center. The games are getting harder for Miami, though fatigue also may be part of it. Only because you are a elite player doesnt make everything easy or autowin the competition... MLS may not be on par with other elite football leagues, but there are still athlets competing and trying their best. When other top athlets went to mls to retire as they say, many of them failed quite hard and didnt have a plan. I think the fact that Messi went their having a good plan to successed and using the negative lessons of psg to be happy in Miami shows a lot.

    @@ruddock7 I think overrated is a bit strong. The EPL legit does have the best talent in the world from top to bottom. I think what might get misconstrued though is that some people think the Premier League is the best just because it's European and not because they're the ones with the money. As is clear from all the guys going to Saudi Arabian teams right now, if you have the money they will come. MLS could definitely raise its profile by increasing the money exponentially and attracting considerably better talent. They did the right thing though by making sure the league was stable first.

    Agreed. The belittling was off putting, even by Dan who I really like. Yes Messi is the GOAT, but he’s also 36, and is physically unable to make the runs he did a decade ago. There’s a reason why Rooney said Messi would find it hard, and that’s because the one thing great players from Europe can’t avoid, is age and the impact it has on your play. Which is why seeing what Messi has done with this team is so impressive. So ESPN FC, stop minimizing the impact he’s had on this team and league, and praise it like you rightfully should.

    Why do people have to ALWAYS start criticizing the quality of MLS ? It's the highest level in America and Canada. It's grown every year. It keeps growing. Why not just enjoy the competition and be grateful that Messi Beckham Henry Rooney Higuain Vela Zlatan etc have all played here even tho MLS is not Europe. Our league still attracted them to come. And every time that happens it helps our growth. The league is less than 30 years old man!! I'm proud of MLS and think Garber is best commissioner in US sports

    Beckham&co are very smart.Their quick thinking of bringing Busquets&Alba to join Messi very early was just a wise investment decision.They knew bringing 3 top players who played for the same club for years playing in different positions will make sure his team would have mentor player in different team positions.When other owners would have taken time to figure it out that having only Messi for eg who isnt experienced in defence wouldn't bring much defensive wisdom the team was lacking.Its incredible to realise that had he brought 3 players playing in same positions as Alba&Busquets who never played together at club level were going to struggle to play as a team.Very smart decision from Messi as well,the fact that he has a chance to own MLS club for a reduced price would be much affordable instead of In Arab country where they would either prevent foreign investors from owning any Saudi leaque club or the price would be extremely high for foreigners to afford.I foresee many wealthy investors especially Americans competing to own or co-own MLS teams cause in under 5yrs MLS teams will cost much more to purchase.Its most probably what Beckham said to Messi if he has desire to own football club that is!Its much lucrative to earn what Messi is earning at MLs and get a chance to own football club for life(potentially)than earning massive salary at Saudi leaque for only 2yrs¬hing else afterwards,by the way he still earn something from Arab state just for being their football ambassadors.USA has one advantage over Saudi!Population size meaning US still has enough potential football fans who could still support their favourite sports like Basketball&American football as well.

    Craig Burley’s obvious distain for MLS is getting old. I get it… top flight European football is of a higher standard. Why must he make sure to act like every match is a joke and anyone excited by this is not cultured. ESPN is terrible for the growth of the sport in this country.

    I wanna speak to the ones who were around when Pele came to the states to play. The ones who are old enough and witnessed him. Was he this good when he played for the Cosmos? Honest question. Did he score right off the bat that quick coming in? Or did it take him a couple games?

  • @heatguyjr

    @heatguyjr

    I wasn't around then of course but Pele did score in his first game with the Cosmos which was a friendly. He went on to score 37 goals in 64 matches for the Cosmos and won the league championship. Of course it was a very different time and they didn't play as many games. No US Open Cup, no international play, etc (those things did exist but NASL didn't participate).

    People don't understand the impact Messi has on the MLS and Inter Miami, since he arrived with Busi and now Alba also they instantly are the team to beat, any team want to beat Messi but it also means more pressure and more expected from his Inter Miami teammates because Messi is demanding a higher level a higher standard of play.

    When you win penalty shootouts, it gives you confidence and makes you play well. Miami will play with the confidence that even if they go to penalty shootouts, they don't care that much. It decrease pressure and they can play better
