Lionel - Introduction

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

For more than 100 years, Lionel Trains have captured the hearts and stirred the imaginations of young and old. Like the mighty locomotives and dynamic railroads they represent, Lionel trains are packed with animation and excitement. That tradition is alive and well today...but this isn't your grandfather's Lionel. Realistic sounds, interactive controls, light, smoke, speed, action are all packed into the most realistic models ever produced. Not only are today's trains fun, they are at the core of a hobby that the entire family can share and enjoy for a lifetime.

In 1963 my Brother and I were surprised Christmas morning with 2 complete Lionel HO steam sets with 20 cars a piece. I was 7 and I can remember the quality and how much fun it was playing with them. I am 66 and I just bought an O gauge with fastrack. The quality is amazing and they are still fun to play with. Some things never change. ❤ Great video.

I was given 2 Lionel Locomotives and some fasttrack. I have a Norfolk and Western Set. With the Locomotives included was a new 80 watt Transformer. I mostly had old American Flyer Trains. But like my Lionel Big Polar Express Set, these are easier for kids.

It's possible. Go to train shows and/or auctions and buy used trains like an old Scout set to get started. Track is very inexpensive if you buy the old 027 type. Buy a small transformer, piece of 4x8 plywood and your on your way.... Just add scenery a little at a time. save some more $ and perhaps buy a switch track to add a siding. Just take your time and have fun. Your imagination and a few dollars can go a long way. It really is a great hobby. Best of luck to you building your very own RR

i think his train of choice would be the Texas Special Postwar Celebration Series F3 diesel. Those, made in 1999, are really rare. Less than 1,500 or so were ever made. Happily, I am now getting that diesel. :) It's always nice to pick up something rare that has a affordable price tag.

I love Lionel and other makes like Marx and Gilbert, but sadly I see the hobby industry as a whole getting to the point where none but the really dedicated hobbyist and the well heeled can even afford an entry level O Gauge train. Also, the quality is dropping for all but the most expensive models and if was not for good people who just want to give their old trains a good home many wouldn't be able to enjoy this truly fascinating hobby.

I stopped my hobby because of how expensive it was, sold my trains because I knew I’d never have my dream layout. I had a rail king MTH csx set, Lionel polar express set (the old shitty one without the chugging tender), and the Area 51 set, which was really cool. I miss my trains sometimes, but you’ve gotta have some money for this hobby.

Hey,just a suggestion you guys think maybe you could Come out with a "just do it like Nike" train set 0-27,scale with maybe a 2-8-4,Berkshire Steam locomotive, with railsounds, crew talk, and on the tender on both sides could say NIKE with the all American Nike logo, and the set could include a flat car,Box car, tank car, gondola car, caboose, and with fast track for 0-27 and a CW-80watt transformer and they can all be on sale for around $349.95,just a thought it would be a nice brand new idea for this year ok☺

  • @SteamKing2160

@@cool1800lemonlaw they get the power from the oulet like we did today. Some of those early trains were wind ups or even pulled on a string. They didn't keep the realistic tracks cause Joshua Lionel Cowen wanted to find a way to deliver power to the rails in a different way so he put in the middle rail.
