the tar -xf tarfile.tar command did not dispplayed the files, but ls did so why to use it

"tar -xf tarfile.tar" means -> extract (x) the file (f) tarfile.tar. Atleast this is my interpretation. Why should it display the files?
I have the choice between you and understanding what is being said, guess what ! dont you have a scam center to run ?
