It's funny, I would never consider 60 km from the place you grew up 'be native' to the place, but that's probably the scale of giant countries. Whereas I'm from a small country like the Netherlands. I'd call my native area anything that can be reached with a car within 15 minutes or within 30 minutes by public transit.

The one extra click thing was a perfect example. It doesn't seem like a lot but over time that's hours or days added to your workflow for no added productivity. And then it's the on hand vs sales argument. Like all the signs point to the boss not understanding businesses at scale.

Such a great video, once of my favorites. When I was at LTX last year Linus's ride to the conference left without him and I drove him and another person to the conference center and got to talk with him for about 30-45 minutes and I realized he's very genuine. We didn't even talk about tech, I went on a rant about motorcycles specifically Harley Davidson and was shocked to hear that Linus isn't a fan of rider aids on motorcycles. I wished I would have more time to discuss that because I was ready for an argument about how no person can react as fast or as precisely as modern ABS and traction control in all conditions. And while they do increase the cost of a motorcycle it's money well spent on something that doesn't remove anything from the riding experience while having the ability to make up for a mistake or variable road conditions. Anyway, Linus is super cool as is all of the staff at LMG I got to talk to.

Yeah, I've got it bad too. Had an Android/Google-related blog from 2009 till last year and I lost interest in most tech things whilst that was going. Partially cause of other things too, but mostly cause tech companies are just too thirsty for attention and sell you shit you don't need, just by putting a bigger number on things that aren't important. Like 99% of phone specs. People are catching up to that slowly. They don't understand they're selling to actual people. I do love stuff like new display tech and folding phones tho, but that's mostly cause I have huge hands and love smooth UI's. But what do I know, I still rock a Pixel 2 XL, and will till it dies. I hate doing anything on a phone, mostly cause I'm on a PC way more.

It works fine, it has enough performance for me, and the battery life is still good. Why should i upgrade? Not passionate about it anymore. Funny enough though, i was tired of building computers for the last 10 years or so. I got my custom computers build by some store, but only every 3 to 4 years. Now i think about building my own rig for the first time in a decade again. It will be fun.

Even though that spat with that ceo was the thing that led linus to the career he has now it's still was upsetting to him to see a company he loved for so long go down the path to its own grave and he was powerless to do anything about it. Listening to Sara talk about her college experience at 18:33 really throws into sharp relief how broken the education system is. I mean obviously _she_ had the good fortune and presence of mind to ultimately land on her feet, but throughout her describing what she wanted from education and what she was being given, all I could think of was _this is a person crying out for a trade school, who probably never even realized that's what she needs_ . And if by some miracle she got over a lifetime of indoctrination with bullshit like 'trades are for people who can't get into college' and realized what she really needed, everyone in her life would have probably tried to talk her out of it.

A lot of people really don’t understand what computer science is going into it, and to be fair, it’s kind of hard to explain. CS is not about writing apps or building websites, it’s about understanding the conceptual, mathematical, and theoretical building blocks that make programming languages do what they do, and allow us to solve problems with them. Once you understand all of that, building an app is easy 😉

@@rotojo2 'crushing' is a laughable over exaggeration, it's a useful feature if you and the person you are sending stuff too has the same phone brand, are within Bluetooth range and you have a WiFi connection (which isn't that good a WiFi connection, as that's the only reason it'd be helpful) and need something sent in seconds rather than in a few more seconds than that, as it's a marginal difference. And Samsung has Quick Share, and others exist too. To call it a competition is silly, non of these services have much effort put into them, and if any is better than the other, it's not going to be really noticeable or something too care about. However Quick Share is newer so that will be better, which is quite ironic from what you've said.
