The reason this works is because pressure changes the boiling point of water. When the little bit of water in corn kernels turns to steam, it pops. Sealing the pot means the pressure goes up when the air gets hot, which also raises the boiling point of water. When the pot is opened the pressure suddenly drops and all the water turns to steam at once, popping every kernel at the same time.

For the Westerners who have never tried this, this kind of popcorn is very different from the popcorns you see in cinema. Different texture and different flavor. It is much more chewy but somehow rigid at the same time. Normally, it does not come with butter or caramel (although I have seen people make caramel coated ones, it is much rarer and is seen as a weird twist or gimmick). It's usually very bland, and it is supposed to be bland. In many countries, it is seen as a boomer snack. Also, this is called popcorn only in English name, and usually, each country has their own name for it and does not identify it as popcorn. In Korea, for example, you can find this everywhere, but if you ask for popcorn, nobody would give you this because "popcorn" specifically means Western cinema popcorn. It's like "Ricecake". It's called a cake in English, but not really considered a cake by Asians. Similarly, this is technically a "popped corn", but the way you pop the corn is different. Western popcorn is via heat, and this popcorn is via pressure and explosion. Different recipe, different food. One does not replace the other. EDIT: There seems to be a lot of smartasses in youtube who are too lazy to google how this works, so I will just explain it a bit more in detail. YES, OBVIOUSLY this popcorn uses heat. Every goddamn thing uses heat. But unlike Western popcorns, heat is a mean to raise the pressure in this case, not to cook corn. If you google how to make a Western popcorn on google, it will immediately tell you about the temperature (ex: cook kernels at 400-460 degree fahrenheit). However, for this popcorn, we do not care because all we care about is the pressure inside the canister. The canister has a pressure gauge, not a thermometer. We apply heat to raise pressure inside the canister, but that heat is not enough to make kernel into popcorn. When we raised the pressure high enough, we open the canister which causes an explosion due to the pressure difference between atmosphere and the inside of the canister. And NO, this is still not a "popcorn". It is called popcorn only in English translation for the convenience of English speakers. Most countries that have this don't call this popcorn. Why? Because this does not have the same recipe. This is more similar to puffed rice than popcorn. This is not a superior or inferior popcorn. It's just different food. Just wrap your head around the idea that different culture can have different food. It's not that difficult to understand. You do not have to feel the need to prove the superiority of your microwave popcorn. That's like comparing Bulgogi with Bacon. It doesn't make any goddamn sense. Also no, this is not burnt. In my limited understanding, it is actually way difficult to mess this up than cooking western popcorn. Western popcorns burn because you cook it with heat, and some kernels never pop. But in this case, you forcibly blow the kernel into popping. You rarely get an unpopped kernel and everything is even cooked the same. You can obviously get hurt by the explosion while cooking, but your corn will come out fine.

Wow this thing burns popcorn better than I do.

@@StarBrand.556 pressure cookers are nothing new. I’ve not seen one for popcorn before but my mum used to use a stove top one to make all sorts of food , just a big pan with screw on lid and pressure gauge.

How the heck all of that popped corn was in that tiny thing?! That feels like it's breaking some physics law...

Corn kernels only pop out when it’s cooled from air after being heated that’s why when you put a dry bag in the microwave the kernels don’t start popping until the heat is released from the seal in the bag opening during cooking

Тут и высокое давление в камере что уравновешивает давление внутри зерен попкорна, а при открытии воздух устремляется наружу, выстреливая зерна в мешок. При этом сами зерна взрываются, не удерживаемые уже высоким давлением.

@@justinbaker8695 not even close...its a pressure cooker...the pressure inside does not allow the popcorn to pop...the instant that pressure is released...the popcorn expands

Not a bomb or gun. I think it's more like pressure cooker, the air in it expanding when heated, so when you open it immediately, it will be like that.

What is this cheating that does not end with some Asian peoples such as China and Korea in 0.21 seconds. The video is composite. There is another video that has been modified to show that in just seconds this was done.

Actually it prevents the air from expanding because it’s a sealed container. Popcorn pops because small amounts of water left inside the kernels turns to steam, but at high pressures water boils at higher temperatures. By heating the cooker up then opening it, the pressure drops, all the water boils at once and every kernel pops at the same time.

В 2002 году, когда был в Китае, вечером услышал хлопки, вышел посмотреть и увидел это. Только там, у многих была простая труба, диаметром сантиметров 15 и длиной в районе 50, плюс манометр и на костре, на двух стойках, как для вертела. Я был удивлен, когда вылетал попкорн в полиэтиленовый рукав метра два и диаметром полтора метра. Он был полный😮 Ещё делали палочки из кукурузы, они вылазили как фарш из мясорубки😅 Впереди планеты всей! .

I’ve actually had a chance to try popcorn made from one of these devices. Really cool looking and it’s pretty loud when they pop it open; But it tastes exactly how it looks. Burnt and dry.

To those of you that are saying this is burnt popcorn; you're wack. My grandmother used to microwave popcorn for so long there would be smoke in the house and a charcoal brick. If anything, this is fairly lightly charred popcorn.

It's not burned at all. It doesn't come out like normal popcorn. It's more dense - it's absolutely delicious and has a great texture.
