Hi Roy, That’s great to hear you’re keen on working through some of the issues I experienced and showed in the video. Lingopie is genuinely a great concept, just at this stage it’s not the right fit for me after finding an alternative that’s a bit better suited to what I’m looking for.

Another great LingoPie alternative is Immersive Translate, which I use every day to watch my shows and movies on Netflix. The subtitles are accurate and has proven very helpful in my language learning journey.

Great point about the search feature being strange - Netflix shows won't show up in search for me when I specifically search for them but if I switch language I can then scroll to the bottom and find it in the discover X language section, after which I can add it to my watchlist and then go back to the original language I wanted and find it in my list. Not ideal by any means, but at least there is a workaround... Even if frustrating. One such things that I haven't found a workaround for is no video on Netflix flashcards. Others are fine, and the shows play fine independently, but the flashcards are broken. I've tested this on multiple devices and the result is the same. No such issue with non-netflix shows. In addition, I am yet to get any human response after 2 days regarding the issue, despite their claims of typically getting back to you within a couple of hours. This is a shame because I actually love the concept and there is some good content - but if this is how they treat us on a trial then what happens when they already have your money (at least if you purchase the lifetime subscription)

Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s really interesting to hear of a few extra bugs you’ve found with Lingopie that I hadn’t picked up on. Shame about the support not responding promptly. Hopefully they can iron out the bugs and user interface annoyances for future, because I agree with you that the concept is awesome for learning a language.

That's terrible, and they have the nerve to charge the premium for the service.

I signed up for the free trial and my biggest issue with Liñgo Pie by far ,for french at least, is the catalogue. I assumed it would be regular french shows just with very high quality subtitles, not their own not particularly high quality very short shows. One of the shows for example is literally some one playing call of duty, it just feels overpriced for how low quality the catalogue is

I agree, that’s personally also my biggest reason as to why I haven’t gone on to renew as well. I can see the appeal with the Netflix shows, but I personally prefer the alternative for that. I didn’t see the one of someone playing Call Of Duty. They do have a lot of positive reviews, so maybe some people quite like the simplicity of the shows and perhaps find it beneficial to their learning.

EXACTLY how I feel! They market the site as if it has _thousands of top shows,_ but that's not useful for people because we're not studying all 7 languages etc.

I've been looking for a vid that compares language reactor to lingopie.

Thanks for your video! Do you know if the Netflix extension can be added via iPad on chrome? Unfortunately I don’t have a computer/laptop. Hoping to use this to improve my Japanese outside of lessons 😊

You’re welcome! Unfortunately Apple IOS don’t support Chrome extensions for iPad/iPhone. You would have to download the app instead and see if it works for you. For me I had some issues with it playing Netflix shows, but maybe it’s changed. All the best with your Japanese learning! :)

What is the origin if the name Lingopie?

I just canceled Lingopie. I had it for 3 years and did not use it. They kept increasing the yearly billing amount too. Last billing this December was . $79 usd.

Ypu can get rid of the transcript on the right and still hve both subtitles

Thank you, I’m really glad to hear it was clear to follow. That’s fair enough - that’s mainly why I haven’t stayed on myself, but it may still be worth trying out the free trial, just in case there is something that peaks your interest? All the best with your french learning from a fellow aussie! I know it can be a difficult journey sometimes :)

Any idea of how often they add new content to the catalogues?

On their website they say that they add new shows to the platform every month :)

Language Reactor is excellent. I use that, and LingQ to import many things.
