Lines in the Sand: When The Beach Becomes a Canvas
Anyone can write their name in the sand, but Jim Denevan uses the beach to create stunning large-scale art. What started as a hobby over 20 years ago has resulted in worldwide recognition, and he's created masterworks from Russia to Chile to Australia. At the end of the day, though, Jim's just happy to find a new beach to make his canvas.

Seriously, how can these people draw a perfect circle on HUGE scale of sand when I can't even perfectly draw a square on my test paper.

hi. Check out the people who ( at day-break ) draw on grass by removing some of the dew.
This of cool. Nothing too controversial or taboo, just sticks in the sand. Love it

Now that's a great lesson from that guy. Don't be sad if your hard work gets erased, see it as a new canvas to do something new. Thank you GBS for bringing such amazing information.

How does he get money, though? I mean maybe rich people want their sands to be drawn, but how many of them are there, and how much are they willing to pay?

Oh! I got it. He should team up with a yoga instructor and have her teach a class on top of the dunes while he creates a mandala at the beach below. "Tune your body, tune your mind". It's gonna be huge.

Spence it doesn't matter if "it" is about money. Being able to keep up with house payments, food costs, etc. does though.
You have to sell your soul to draw so precise. No other explanation.
Yes I love this , I've been doing similar rake art at Gwithian beach Cornwall uk. It started in lockdown as form of exercise and expression. Free flow . Humans are amazing

I just don't get how you could put so much effort in to something and then have it be erased in an instant
"Come down with nothing and leave with nothing" I didn't realize nature made it own rakes as well as sticks.
This guy loves sand! His house color palette!
he can draw the sacred geometry flawlessly... omg
This man was featured in Tom Misch music video.. "Watch Me Dance" its a nice song...
Kind of reminds me of Sonja Hinrichsen but with sand not snow
Stoicism in action. Nothing is forever. ❤
Surely this guy will find a Time Machine in the near future and travel to the Nazca Desert in the past ;)
There’s a beach in my country where visitors draw on the sand and it’s so freaking pretty

In a way, we're all just drawing on the sand, a canvas we call Life.
For those that dig this you should check out Andres Amador too! facebook.com/AndresAmadorArts/
There must be a kind of freedom in drawing something that is going to get washed away.
Crops circles explained 😉 no more extraterrestrial theories for that

I can't even draw a circle on paper and this guy draws the golden ratio on a BEACH... fffffffffffuuuuuu....
